About international schools in India
In India the label “international” covers a wide set of schools: genuine IB or Cambridge centres sit alongside Indian-board schools that market an outward-looking style, so the term is not regulated and means different things in different places. The most common routes you will see are the International Baccalaureate (PYP/MYP/DP) and Cambridge IGCSE/A-level programmes, while many schools that call themselves international continue to follow CBSE or ICSE syllabuses with extra language and global projects. English is normally the medium of instruction, with Hindi or a regional language commonly taught alongside and options for foreign languages such as French, German or Spanish. Fees vary sharply by city and curriculum - some more affordable international-style schools in smaller cities publish annual tuition in the low lakhs, while established urban IB/IGCSE schools frequently charge several lakhs per year; additional costs for transport, exams, meals and activities are typical. Admissions calendars also differ: Indian-board schools most often follow an April/June session, whereas many IB and British-pattern schools run an August/September intake, so parents should start enquiries many months before the year they want entry.
