Our Transparency Charter

Welcome to our Transparency Charter. This page provides information about how we work with schools, how we make money, and how we recommend schools to you, so you can use doris with confidence, knowing that we always act in the best interests of parents.
A message from the CEO
Hello parents! Here at doris we understand that choosing a school overseas is a huge decision for any parent. We know that the process can be confusing, difficult, and time consuming. Not to mention how stressful it can be too! That’s why everything we do as a company is designed to help parents find the perfect school match for their child and ensure that they feel supported every step of the way. The support we offer to parents is built on a broader commitment to act with transparency and impartiality. We think operating in an open and unbiased manner is an important way to offer reassurance when you are providing a service that people will use to help them make such an important decision. We also feel that it’s important because of the informational landscape that parents currently face. There are lots of websites that promote schools to parents, but the reality is that the majority of them make recommendations or feature particular ones more prominently based on how much they are paid by the school, and not based on how good of a fit they are for that particular family. We don’t think this is great for families (or for schools actually!), so we’ve decided to do things a bit differently. The information below tells you exactly how we recommend schools to you, where the information about schools on doris comes from, and how we make money as a business. If you have any questions about how we operate then please feel free to email: transparency@doris.school. Thanks for visiting doris,
Nik Higgins

Transparency & Impartiality FAQ
How do we choose which schools to recommend to you?
Our recommendations are based on us matching your unique preferences with information that we have about different schools. So, for example, if one of your key criteria is a school with a particular extracurricular activity then we’ll show you schools that offer that activity. We use some cool AI technology to do the ‘thinking’ and make these matches inside the marketplace.
How do you make money?
Schools can have profiles on doris without becoming one of our customers. However, most schools that you see listed on the marketplace will be paying us. We charge them an annual fee and this gives them the ability to customize their school profile, access data insights, and receive the details of the parents that have chosen to match with them.
Can a school pay you more to appear more prominently?
Schools cannot pay to purchase advertising placements or override search criteria. Search results always respect the filters you apply, so only relevant schools are shown. Within those relevant results, partner schools may be listed towards the top, in a randomized order, which provides additional visibility while maintaining fairness and transparency.
Where does the information shown on school profiles come from?
If a school has a profile on doris but is not one of our customers then the information is collated from publicly available sources (e.g. their website and social media channels). If the school is one of our customers then they are able to edit and add to this information from their own internal sources.
Do you do anything sneaky with my data?
We only use your data in accordance with our terms of use. However, we get that most people don’t read long legal agreements. So, in short: no! We only pass your personal information to schools, with your permission, when you connect with them. We do also provide schools with data insights (e.g. about the nationalities of families viewing their profiles), but when we do this it is in an anonymised, aggregate form.
