Schools in India that describe themselves as CBSE or Indian-curriculum ‘international’ typically follow the Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus while positioning themselves with international teaching methods, extra-language options and an outward-looking school culture; the term “international” in India is not a regulated label and can mean different things in different schools. English is the normal medium of instruction in these schools, with Hindi, regional Indian languages and a range of foreign languages (French, German, Spanish, Sanskrit and others) offered as additional language options under CBSE rules. Annual fees vary widely by city and school tier - many mid-range CBSE private schools in large metros charge in the tens of thousands to a few lakhs of rupees per year, while premium campuses can charge several lakhs - so expect large local variation and add transport and activity costs on top. Admissions are handled by each school (not centrally), most schools open enquiries and applications in the months before the academic year begins (the CBSE academic session commonly begins in April), and relocating families should prepare previous school records, a Transfer Certificate and proof of age/residence for faster placement.
