About international schools in Jakarta, Indonesia
Jakarta has one of the region’s largest and most varied international-school markets, with options ranging from National-Plus schools that blend Indonesian requirements with international syllabuses to fully international campuses offering IB, Cambridge, American or Australian programmes. English is the dominant language of instruction, while Bahasa Indonesia is commonly taught (and sometimes compulsory) and many schools also offer Mandarin, Korean, Japanese or mother-tongue support. Annual tuition varies widely by type and year group: expect lower-end international or National-Plus options from roughly IDR 70 million a year and premium campuses with upper-secondary programmes that can exceed IDR 600 million, with extra charges for registration, capital/enrolment levies, transport, meals and trips. Admissions are competitive at popular schools - the main intake is around the start of the academic year (July - August) with some mid-year places in January and rolling admissions at a few schools - so relocating families should allow time for applications, assessments and possible waiting lists, and consider commute times when choosing a campus.
