Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The Wellbeing Hub is a community resource for pupils, staff, alumni and families. It is led by a dedicated Head of Wellbeing who oversees the wellbeing programme. The Wellbeing Hub provides wellbeing eBooks for the school community. It hosts wellbeing content including Random Acts of Kindness, Talks & Events, Wellbeing in Practice, Nutrition & Exercise, and Additional Support. The curriculum also nurtures personal growth and wellbeing, with aims to promote self-confidence, independence, empathy, and resilience through PSHEE, assemblies, and class discussion.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Children with SEND or EAL are given full access to the curriculum through early intervention, scaffolding and responsive approaches tailored to individual needs. The curriculum emphasises inclusive, adaptive teaching to ensure SEND and EAL can participate and progress. Assessment outcomes drive curriculum planning and targeted interventions, using regular progress meetings and data to tailor support. The school links SEND and EAL provisions to SEND policy and EAL policy to guide practice. The aims focus on nurturing confident, curious, and compassionate learners who develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

EAL is defined as English as an additional language, and pupils identified as EAL remain recorded as such throughout their schooling. The school welcomes and supports EAL learners to thrive within a positive and inclusive community. At enrolment language status is collected, and external SAS assessments (PTE and PIRA), along with phonics and reading tests, identify pupils requiring targeted EAL support. Pupils requiring EAL support are banded using DfE guidance and receive a mix of interventions such as specialist teaching (including 1:1), Pathway to EHB, Learning Enrichment Department support, EAL groups, and classroom adjustments. Progress is tracked via the Whole School EAL Register and EAL proficiency bands (A–E) to determine ongoing support. The Bell Foundation's EAL pedagogy guides teaching and learning for EAL pupils.

Mental Wellbeing

The Wellbeing Hub provides support for emotional wellbeing and mental health for the whole Eaton House community, led by a Head of Wellbeing. A named wellbeing lead is available to discuss concerns and arrange support. The Wellbeing Hub provides wellbeing eBooks and a range of resources. It offers activities and topics such as Random Acts of Kindness, Talks & Events, Wellbeing in Practice, Nutrition & Exercise, and Additional Support. PSHEE, British values and related activities contribute to developing self-confidence, independence, empathy and social awareness.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate report highlights community involvement, including gardening and litter picking in partnership with local conservation groups, as well as charitable initiatives and community events such as Manor Market.
