IB-curriculum international schools in China form a large, varied sector that offers one or more IB programmes (Primary Years, Middle Years, Diploma and, in some schools, the Career-related Programme) across early years to secondary. Most IB schools use English as the main language of instruction, though many schools run bilingual English - Mandarin models and teach Mandarin as a core subject. Fees vary a great deal by city and type of school; in major Tier-1 cities annual tuition commonly ranges from roughly RMB 70,000 at more affordable or domestic bilingual providers to around RMB 300,000 - 350,000 at higher-fee international schools, with additional one-off and recurring costs for deposits, capital levies, transport, meals and exam fees. The main intake follows the northern-hemisphere school year (August/September) and popular year groups fill early, so families usually begin applications 6 - 12 months ahead; be prepared to provide passports, residence permits and school records because local eligibility rules differ and some “international” schools are limited to foreign-passport holders while bilingual or international divisions may admit Chinese nationals.
