Billing schedule and payment terms

- Uniform items are required per division and are available through Lands' End (school-approved selections) and certain items (e.g., ties) through other retailers; uniform purchase costs are the responsibility of families. Uniform Requirement

Uniforms are required through Calverton Cougar Gear. Lands' End provides approved uniform items; Lower School wears khaki pants with a navy polo, Middle and Upper Schools wear khaki pants with a white oxford shirt or navy polo, and dress days require a white oxford shirt, tie, and blazer (crest patch available on request). Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Middle School and Upper School Advisories incorporate social-emotional learning, following the CASEL Core Competencies, with an emphasis on character building, relationship building, self-esteem, and Calverton culture and behavioral expectations. Social-emotional learning is embedded across divisions through Advisories and a programmatic Social-Emotional Curriculum, including digital citizenship. Health and Wellness education is integrated into Middle School and Upper School Science and Physical Education. A Student Support Specialist can meet with students for counseling, conduct risk assessments, and refer to external counseling or educational evaluation when needed. Executive Functioning support is provided by the Learning Specialists in Middle School and Upper School, with individualized plans and regular check-ins to build independence.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Small class sizes and dedicated staff support students who have mild reading, math, or writing difficulties, executive functioning challenges, and ADHD. Documentation of a diagnosed condition is reviewed during the admissions process with consideration for the current caseload and the student's individual needs. Lower School has a Learning Specialist providing small-group instruction and targeted interventions twice per week. Middle School provides Executive Functioning support and creates an individualized Student Support Plan for each student. Upper School provides Executive Functioning support, with services formalized on the student's transcript and schedule, and the Learning Specialist may check in up to three times per week. Accommodations include extended time, alternate testing environments, test directions explained orally, tests read aloud, and other supports; language waivers are not provided unless there is a documented Specific Reading Disability; Student & Learning Support is not designed to provide significant learning, behavioral, social-skills, or anxiety support such as ongoing daily 1:1 aid.

Mental Wellbeing

Counseling services are available through the Student Support Specialist who can meet with students for counseling and risk assessments. Health and Wellness education is integrated into Middle School and Upper School Science and Physical Education. Social-emotional learning is incorporated in Middle School and Upper School Advisories, following CASEL Core Competencies, and includes a Social-Emotional Curriculum such as digital citizenship.

Safeguarding

Student Safety, Boundaries & Reporting covers reporting of suspected child abuse to appropriate governmental authorities, with policies to protect students. Fire drills occur monthly as required by state law. The School screens all employees and volunteers with unsupervised access through a criminal background process. Child Safety from Sexual Offenders and Predators policies require timely reporting and interim protective measures to safeguard the community. The School uses internet filtering in compliance with CIPA and COPPA, monitors activity on school-owned devices and networks, and provides digital citizenship guidance. The Calverton School is accredited by NAIS, the Association of Independent Maryland Schools, and the Maryland State Department of Education, with the Upper School accredited as an IB World School.

Admissions

Step One: Inquire. Complete an online inquiry. A member of the Admissions Team will follow up within 24–48 hours of receiving the inquiry. Families receive an email invitation to activate a MyCalverton account. For direct assistance, call (410) 535-0216 to speak with an admissions team member.
Step Two: Experience Calverton. Visit the campus to continue the exploration. Attend an Open House, schedule a private tour, and/or sign a child up for the Cougar for a Day program. Private tours can be arranged at convenient times.
Step Three: Apply Online. After submitting an inquiry, you will receive an email invitation to finish setting up your MyCalverton account. Activate the account, then log in to complete the online application and submit the $95 application fee. Need-based financial assistance and merit scholarships are available for qualifying applicants. The Financial Aid portal opens on December 1, 2025 for the 2026–2027 school year.
Step Four: Testing. Applicants for preschool through grade 8 participate in admissions testing and observation during a shadow day visit. Applicants for grades 9–12 must take the ISEE or the SSAT. To register, visit iseetest.org (Calverton's code is 210650) or ssat.org. HSPT, PSAT/SAT, ACT, or other standardized testing can be submitted for consideration.
Step Five: Important Documents. Documents requested through MyCalverton include transcripts and academic records, math and English recommendations (Grades 1–11), a writing sample (Grades 6–11), a homeroom teacher recommendation (Grades 1–5), an Early Childhood Assessment (Preschool and Kindergarten), a copy of the birth certificate, and a copy of immunization records. Recommendations are sent electronically to current teachers/daycare providers; email addresses are needed.
Step Six: Decision. Completed files are reviewed by the Admissions Committee for a decision. Final admission decisions are released to families.

Scholarships

Financial Aid and Scholarships: The Calverton School offers financial aid to enroll mission-appropriate day students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 who would not otherwise have access to an independent school education due to financial constraints. Clarity Financial Aid is used to assist in financial aid calculations, and grants are awarded to families on an annual basis (first come, first served) until funds are depleted. Financial aid for the 2026–2027 school year is now open through Clarity.
