Higher Education Progression

University and Careers Guidance is provided early, starting in Grade 8, with group and one-to-one support for IB Diploma students in Grades 11 and 12 to help navigate university options in the UK and around the world. The guidance program includes helping students craft personal statements, college essays and interview preparation, and it highlights university offers from institutions such as the University of St Andrews, LSE, Imperial College, ESCP and many others. The school emphasizes strong university and career planning as part of its IB pathway.

Gifted and Talented

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Marymount International School London places happiness and wellbeing at the heart of learning, and social-emotional development is integral to its pastoral life. Advisor Groups ensure every student is known and cared for, with a dedicated faculty member guiding emotional and study skills and providing a safe space for discussion. Heads of Year construct an age-appropriate Advisor curriculum to support social and emotional learning and development, while all students receive a Wellbeing Booklet with tips, resources and contacts. A counsellor is on campus three days a week to provide confidential support, and staff may refer students as needed. The Senior Mental Health Lead coordinates mental health support in collaboration with the School Nurse, and staff are trained as Mental Health First Aiders to respond in emergencies.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The School offers a wide range of support for students for whom English is an additional language. The SEN definitions recognise learning difficulties and other disabilities, including conditions that may affect the ability to access the curriculum. For students with identified needs, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is prepared in consultation with parents and the student, and an Action Plan or Collaborative Action Plan may be used to address educational, behavioural or pastoral concerns. A provision map documents the supports available and informs teachers of the student's plan. If a student has an Educational Health and Care Plan (EHC plan), the School will collaborate with the local authority to deliver the provision, and additional services may be funded by the local authority where applicable. The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) staff liaise with teachers to differentiate instruction and monitor progress as part of the wider welfare and pastoral process.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English is the language of instruction; all students study either Language & Literature or Language Acquisition in the IB programme. Students with limited English receive initial language-support (ELD) to enable effective learning across subjects, with schedules designed to support this provision. All students (except those temporarily developing English) are required to study at least two languages, and those in English Language Acquisition or ELD may audit English A classes when appropriate. English Language Development is delivered in Grades 6-8 (three levels) and Grades 6-10 with defined hours; additional language support is provided as needed to reach proficiency. The school also offers Mother Tongue Instruction or support in languages such as Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish, with further language options pursued through DP arrangements if numbers permit.

Mental Wellbeing

The Health and Wellbeing Policy commits the school to promoting physical and mental health and provides a structured approach to mental health, including early intervention and involvement of staff, parents and the community. A registered nurse and a qualified counsellor deliver health and wellbeing services on site, and the school is in partnership with a local GP surgery. The Mental Health Lead, supported by the School Nurse, leads on mental health matters, identifies issues, facilitates referrals, and helps develop whole-school approaches to wellbeing; mental health first aid training is available for key staff. The school is a MOSA member to ensure high-quality care, and students are listened to with respect for privacy, dignity and involvement in decisions affecting their wellbeing. Health education is coordinated with PSHEE staff to keep wellbeing information current and relevant.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding and the welfare of students are paramount. The school has a designated safeguarding lead (Ms Annah Langan), deputy safeguarding leads (Ms Paula Horton and Ms Annie Plumridge) and safeguarding governors (Ms Cristina Serrano and Ms Niamh Green). The school works with Kingston and Richmond Safeguarding Children Partnership (KRSCP) to promote safety. Should concerns arise, referrals can be made to Children's Services via the Single Point of Access, and there are emergency contacts including the police (999) and CEOP for online safety concerns. This framework ensures clear reporting channels and safeguarding governance.

Admissions

Admissions

1. Rolling admissions and space availability. Marymount operates rolling admissions and may accept applications throughout the school year, subject to space availability. Families should contact the Admissions Team before beginning the online application to learn about current space and entry options. This helps families plan for potential mid-year admissions.

2. Online application and initial steps. Begin the online application and plan to save your progress as you go. Upload documents (passport, visa, school records) and electronically submit the necessary recommendation forms to your daughter's current school. After the completed application is received, a member of the Admissions Team will be in touch to discuss next steps.

3. Assessment process by grade. The admissions process is holistic and rigorous, with assessments tailored by grade. Grade 6 entry (Year 7) includes an assessment day with an online aptitude test, small group activities, and an individual interview. Grades 7–10 entry involves written tests in Maths and English and an interview with a senior academic team member (online or in person). Grade 11 entry (IB Diploma Programme) involves written tests in Maths and English and an interview with the IBDP Coordinator; entry to Grade 12 is considered on a case-by-case basis, with a reference requested from the current school for all entry grades.

4. Offers, documentation, and visa steps. Offers of admission are extended following assessment and may be conditional upon receipt of official records and validation of documents. The school reserves the right to reconsider an offer if new information arises. Overseas applicants must satisfy UKVI visa requirements; the visa process is the responsibility of the applicants and their parents.

5. Language, SEN considerations, and grade placement. Students whose first language is not English are assessed on entry to determine appropriate English language development support (ELD/English B). If special educational needs are identified, a meeting may be arranged to discuss adjustments and services (Learning Resource Programme) and any related costs; the school may place students in the most appropriate Grade based on age and ability.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for Grade 6 (Year 7) and Grade 11 (Year 12) entry. Scholarships in a range of disciplines recognise excellence, effort and engagement and provide opportunities to extend learning in specific disciplines. For Grade 6 entry, MYP scholarships include Academic (by invitation after grade 6 entrance assessments), Visual Arts and Design, Performing Arts (Dance, Drama or Music), and Sports. For Grade 11 entry, IBDP scholarships include Academic, Arts, Sports, Service, and All-Rounder. Applicants wishing to apply for a scholarship should indicate this on their application form; further detailed information is provided upon expression of interest.

Bursaries are means-tested and available in a limited number each year. All applications are confidential and considered on a case-by-case basis; a full statement of financial circumstances with supporting documentation is required and reviewed by a third party prior to any award. The bursary fund is finite, and awards are at the Headmistress and Governors' discretion and subject to annual review. Indicate on the application if you wish to be considered for a bursary; the Business Office will follow up. The bursary assessment runs concurrently with the entrance process and does not affect the testing outcome or placement. Written notification of bursary outcomes is provided simultaneously with a placement offer.
