Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Positive Education is a whole-school approach to student and staff wellbeing. The program blends the science of positive psychology with best-practice teaching to support flourishing. The framework follows Seligman's PERMA model, focusing on Positive Relationships, Positive Emotions, Positive Health, Positive Engagement, Positive Accomplishment, and Positive Purpose. The school has adapted the Institute of Positive Education's model to complement traditional learning, guided by a Learn, Live, Teach and Embed roadmap. This approach aims to promote wellbeing alongside academic achievement for all students.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The Inclusive Education Unit (IEU) was established in 2011 to maximise students' potential and foster an inclusive culture within a mainstream environment. Inclusion is the best approach for SEN students and regular students, with school, family and professionals working as active participants. The IEU provides in-class support and pull-out services, including speech therapy or extra subject support, with accommodations for tests and exams. Modified curriculums may be considered when necessary, with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and a Plan of Educational Activities (PEA) to set goals. The IEU collaborates with teachers and external professionals to ensure each student receives appropriate support.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English is the language of instruction for most subjects; Chinese language subjects are taught in Chinese. Students learn the two main languages of the world – English and Putonghua. The Cambridge international curriculum is used from Kindergarten onward, integrating local DSEDJ requirements. Putonghua is taught as part of the language program. English language development is emphasised across the school.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is a core focus through Positive Education. The program blends positive psychology with teaching to promote flourishing. The PERMA framework guides the six wellbeing domains: Positive Relationships, Positive Emotions, Positive Health, Positive Engagement, Positive Accomplishment, and Positive Purpose. A Learn, Live, Teach and Embed roadmap guides the implementation of Positive Education. The aim is to improve wellbeing alongside academic achievement.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding and student wellbeing are priorities at Macau Anglican College. The Pastoral Care Team includes Form Lead Teachers, Student Counsellors, the School Chaplain and the Head of Secondary. The team meets weekly to prioritise safeguarding and wellbeing. The team fosters a nurturing environment and promotes positive relationships among students, teachers and parents. The team collaborates with stakeholders to address behaviour issues with thorough investigation and positive management strategies.

The Association is officially registered with the Government and funds are derived from membership subscriptions, donations during events and fundraising activities. Activities range from arranging trips and outings for students to drama shows in the school, and regular seminars for parents on parenting and educational enhancement skills.
