Diving Deeper

Boarding Arrangements

Nyborg Gymnasium provides a boarding school (kostskolen) for students attending the campus. More than 190 students live there each year, with adult staff on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. New boarders join a family group and are paired with a designated 'mom' or 'dad' to help them settle in and stay connected to staff. The boarding life includes meals, study spaces, common areas, and organized activities, with rules covering weekends, guests and safety.

Food Options

Foodcamp is Nyborg Gymnasium's canteen, and the kostskolekøkken (boarding-school kitchen) daily prepares meals for students, teachers and boarding students. Meals emphasise healthy, varied, seasonal Danish cuisine with a strong focus on ecology and local ingredients; 75% of ingredients are organic, and a meat-free day is observed weekly.

House System

Pupils are organized into family groups within the boarding community. An older student acts as a guardian ('mom' or 'dad') to help new boarders settle in and stay connected with staff.

Governance and Ownership

Nyborg Gymnasium is a self-governing institution within public administration, based in Nyborg Municipality, Region of Southern Denmark. It is governed by a board with representatives from Nyborg Municipality, Syddansk Universitet, UCL, and staff and student representatives; the rector leads the campus.
Fees

Annual tuition at Nyborg Gymnasium ranges from DKK 27,000 to DKK 50,000 for 2026/27.

Application fees

- Boarding (kostskole) registration fee: DKK 2,500 charged at admission to the boarding school; a student is not admitted until this amount is paid. The registration fee is non‑refundable on withdrawal or when the student vacates the boarding school.

Tuition fees by programme and year group (per year / per term)

- Day programmes (STX, HF, HHX, EUX, EUD, IB, 10. klasse): there is no annual tuition charged to students enrolled on the school's regular upper‑secondary programmes; education is publicly funded. Ancillary charges may apply for certain optional activities or services (see “Other costs” below).

- Boarding (kostskole) – fees for the school year 2026/27:
- Students aged 18 or older: DKK 50,000 per school year (charged as 10 instalments of DKK 5,000).
- Students under 18 years: base DKK 27,000 per school year (charged as 10 instalments of DKK 2,700) plus 4.5% of the parents' (pre‑tax) income above DKK 100,000; the combined charge is capped so that a maximum total of DKK 50,000 would apply at an approximate income level of DKK 610,000. The annual boarding price is adjusted each year with effect from August.

Billing schedule and payment terms

- Boarding invoices are issued in Danish kroner (DKK) and the boarding fee is billed monthly in 10 instalments covering August through May. Payment for boarding is due in advance on the 1st of each month. Payment may be made by bank transfer or giro. A reminder (rykker) fee of DKK 100 is charged for late payment. There is a two‑month notice period for termination of boarding; the month of notice plus the following two months remain payable. Non‑payment can lead to exclusion from the boarding school. Fees are regulated annually effective from August.

Boarding fees (what they cover and special rules)

- The stated boarding fee covers the student's residence at the kostskole (including meals and supervision as provided by the boarding operation). Students over 18 may be eligible for Danish state educational grants at the higher (out‑of‑home) rate if they meet the requirements. For students under 18 the final boarding amount depends on parental income as described above.

Other costs and typical additional fees

- Exam / participant fees for external (self‑study) candidates: as regulated, the school collects participation fees for external examination candidates. The amount is DKK 550 per subject for the subjects enumerated in the relevant regulation and DKK 1,400 for other subjects; the school refunds participant fees to external candidates who are subsequently issued a certificate for a complete studentereksamen.

- Textbooks and book depot: borrowing school books from the school's book depot is free; lost or missing books must be replaced at the student's expense.

- Study trips and excursions: study trips and other out‑of‑school activities may carry participant fees. The school follows the statutory rules on participant payments for excursions and study trips; mandatory participation cannot be required for costs that exceed the statutory daily limits that apply. Specific trip charges are billed on an activity basis and state the due date and payment instructions.

- Canteen / meals for day students and other incidental purchases: food services (FoodCamp / canteen) and similar on‑site purchases are charged separately to individual students and are not included in the standard programme fees.

Refund information

- Boarding registration fee (DKK 2,500) is non‑refundable if the student declines the offered place or when the student moves out. The school operates a contractual two‑month notice period for leaving the boarding facility; payment remains due for the month of notice plus the two subsequent months.

- External (self‑study) candidate participation fees are refunded where the candidate receives a certificate for a complete studentereksamen, in accordance with the relevant regulation.

Fee payment options and how invoices are handled

- Boarding fee payment methods: bank transfer or giro are accepted for boarding payments; invoices are issued in DKK. Monthly instalments are due on the 1st of each month (August–May). A reminder fee applies for late payments.

- Event‑ or activity‑specific payments (for example 10. klasse events) are handled through the school's online payment procedures that use the national authentication system (MitID) for the pupil's payment/consent flows where applicable. There are two departments: STX/HF/HHX subjects (with syllabi and guidance linked) and Electives. STX is a three-year general upper secondary program that prepares you for higher education, with a foundation course and a study-direction path, offering Danish, English, mathematics, social studies, two foreign languages, and an artistic and a natural science foundation, followed by chosen study directions and a range of A-, B- and C-level electives. HF is a two-year program with six available fagpakker (subject packages) and a pathway to many short and medium-length higher education programs, complemented by practical and project work. IB Diploma Programme is offered with six subjects (three at higher level and three at standard level) and core elements Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and Creativity, Activity, Service, with flexible subject choices and the possibility of seven subjects in some cases with approval. EUX provides a two-year grundforløb followed by a two-year apprenticeship, with three tracks EUX Detail, EUX Handel, and EUX Kontor; EUD offers three vocational tracks (Detail, Handel, Event) with a two-year grundforløb and a main-praktik (work placement). 10th grade is available with three lines, and Kostskolen (boarding school) provides a home-away-from-home experience.

Higher Education Progression

STX is described as a three-year program that prepares students for higher education. HF leads to a broad range of short and medium-length higher education programs, with study guidance. The IB Diploma Programme is designed to meet tertiary education entrance requirements, with subject choices aligned to plans for university study and core components (EE, TOK, CAS). The IB program emphasizes an international study environment, with students from many countries. EUX and EUD combine vocational training with gymnasial study and prepare students for further study at vocational or higher education institutions.

Gifted and Talented

Akademiet for Talentfulde Unge (ATU) collaborates with Nyborg Gymnasium to offer talent development opportunities; Nyborg notes ATU involvement with Dimission at SDU as part of NG's talent programming.
Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school has a culture founded on diversity and values tolerance, community, and mutual respect regardless of background or culture. There is room for everyone to be and learn in different ways. A strong social community bridges across all education programs and staff groups. The staff policy emphasizes collaboration, inclusion, and a commitment to students' social and emotional development.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school recognizes that students may have diagnoses or anxiety and provides support within class teams. There are diagnose sheets and practice‑oriented information to help class teams understand and handle diagnoses in teaching. A mentor scheme exists, and guidance resources such as guidance counselors, reading guidance, and mathematics guidance are available to support students with learning needs.

Mental Wellbeing

The school measures student well-being through an annual Elevtrivsel undersøgelse (student well‑being survey) as part of the quality system. Teaching environment is assessed at least every three years in an Undervisningsmiljøvurdering, with the most recent assessment conducted in autumn 2024. The results indicate general satisfaction with the teaching environment but identify areas for improvement, including air quality, room temperature, and furniture in some classrooms. After‑school and other community activities also support student well‑being and a sense of belonging across classes and programs.

Safeguarding

The school issues guidelines for handling abusive behavior, including bullying and sexual harassment. The plan provides a stepwise process: assess the seriousness and nature of the incident; inform the involved parties; determine whether further investigations are needed; the leadership decides on appropriate actions or sanctions; and follow‑up is arranged as needed. Complaints can be directed to the principal or, if the concern involves the principal, to other appropriate authorities, with processes in place to protect confidentiality and ensure proper handling.
