Introduction

Located at Skovvangen 10 in Kolding, Denmark, Kolding Gymnasium and IB World School offers the IB Diploma Programme (DP) alongside fellow upper-secondary tracks on a single campus. Since 2003 KG has delivered the DP, taught in English, with a Danish Pre-DP year for students from Folkeskole backgrounds and a 4+1 rhythm that dedicates one day per week to in-depth study and projects. The DP requires six subjects from Groups 1–6, two languages from Groups 1–2, and a sixth subject that can be Visual Arts or another Group 1–4 subject; three subjects must be taken at Higher Level. The school has students from over forty nationalities and prepares graduates for universities in Denmark and around the world. The campus combines a bright, modern building with woodland surroundings, easy access to the E45, free parking, a music studio, and a range of student activities and clubs that enrich learning for all students.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

KG supports social and emotional learning through an active, international student community. There are committees such as SVADA and Fredagscafé that organize social events for students. The annual Dorotheafest (DOT) is the biggest party of the year, and Translokation marks the graduation year. KG students run morning assemblies and contribute to the school magazine Spanskrøret, with opportunities to join activities for musicians and participate in theatre productions. IB also has its own IB Student Council, and students can be involved in a range of clubs and social activities that foster collaboration and personal growth.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Special Educational Support (SPS) services are available in English to assist students who need extra academic or personal support. Counselling and mathematics support are provided as part of SPS, ensuring access to help for academic and personal needs. The SPS provision supports IB and non-IB students alike, helping them achieve their goals. The services include resources to address learning differences and to promote individual development. The school emphasizes that these supports are accessible through English-language services.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The Pre-DP year is taught entirely in English. In the IB Diploma Programme, English is offered as a language option (English A or B) alongside Danish A/B and other language offerings such as Spanish Ab Initio. English language and literature are part of Group 1, and Group 2 includes Danish B and English B. The school provides English-language counselling and SPS services to support students who use English as an additional language. All teaching in the Pre-DP year is conducted in English and English-language support is available across programmes.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is supported by a student counsellor within the IB team who can assist with emotional and social needs. The staff provide access to counselling for academic and personal concerns, and the deputy coordinator also has responsibilities that include student welfare. The IB team includes dedicated welfare resources to support wellbeing during the Diploma Programme. Students can participate in peer support and access ongoing guidance through the counsellors to sustain mental health and resilience. Welfare provisions are integrated into the IB experience through counselling and advisory services.

Safeguarding

A Code of Conduct is in place at Kolding Gymnasium and the IB programme. KG Procedures and IB Policy documents outline safeguarding and child protection policies. These documents provide guidance on behaviour, welfare, and safety for students and staff. The policies ensure a framework for safeguarding across school activities and IB-related programmes. The IB team and staff implement safeguarding measures to support student welfare.
Parent Experience

History

Three upper-secondary programs are gathered on one campus. Kolding Gymnasium has a strong and international educational environment, offering not only the traditional STX but also the two-year HF and the IB Diploma Programme. With three different programs, there is a rich diversity in student types, subjects, and activities, contributing to the unique KG spirit. KG has a proud historical tradition and is housed in a bright, modern building. We unite fun with seriousness—and love our school.

Community

Kolding Gymnasium is a large, modern gymnasium. There is much more going on than teaching. The school is also a place where you can pursue your interests, make new friends, develop your talents, participate in committees, and grow as a person.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Kolding Gymnasiums Venner (KGV) is an association that provides educational support to current KG students and KG graduates. It offers educational support for competency-based programs, such as at study start, study trips, or longer stays abroad, typically as an interest-free loan repayable after studies. KGV also awards around four scholarships of 2,500 DKK each to students who make extraordinary academic and/or social contributions; there is no application process for these scholarships. The association is led by a five-member board, one of whom is elected by the school's teachers, and the Student Council has an observer on the board. The general meeting is held on the third Tuesday in November. The annual membership fee is 50 DKK, with payments via the association's account.
