Boarding Arrangements

Boarding is provided on-site in two houses: Millfield House for Years 7–10 and Centenary House for Years 11–13, both on the main campus. Boarding options include Full Boarding, Weekly Boarding, and Flexi Boarding. Boarders eat breakfast, supper, and weekend lunch in the Dining Hall, and both houses have well-stocked kitchens for snacks and additional meals; meals are cooked from scratch using fresh ingredients with accommodation for dietary needs. Millfield House is a renovated Victorian villa with single, twin, and triple bedrooms and sea views; Centenary House is a modern, purpose-built boarding house with single and twin rooms (many en-suite) plus a family kitchen and various social and study spaces.

Uniform Requirement

Years 7–11 wear the official uniform: Ryde School blazer, white shirt and tie, navy V-neck pullover, and charcoal grey trousers (or a knee-length plaid skirt for girls); polished black leather shoes are required. Coats must be black, navy or dark grey, and a Shirt Sleeve Order may apply in hot weather, with blazers and ties temporarily removed for comfort. Curriculum

The broad, enriching and inclusive curriculum develops the skills, character and knowledge needed for a purposeful future. In Years 7–9 the Ryde Global programme guides students to choose GCSE subjects in Year 9, supported by the Ryde School Learner Profile and strong tutorial and academic structures. In Years 10–11 GCSE and IGCSE courses start in Year 10, with a mixture of International GCSEs (IGCSEs) and GCSEs; English Language and English Literature, Mathematics, Science, and a language form the core, with students able to personalise their study to match interests and strengths. Exam Results

GCSE Results 2026 were the best across every metric since the 9-1 grading was introduced: 31.4% of GCSEs were graded 9 or 8, almost half were 9/8/7; 43% of pupils achieved five or more GCSEs at grade 7 or higher; almost two-thirds achieved five or more GCSEs at grade 6 or higher; 94.9% of grades were 9–4. Notable individual achievements were reported. A Level results were the best since 2014, and IB Diploma results were the best in the School's history this summer.

History

Ryde School with Upper Chine was founded in 1921 as Ryde Grammar School for boys. It moved to its current location in Ryde in 1928 and now occupies over 17 acres overlooking the Solent. In 1994 it merged with Upper Chine Girls' School to become Ryde School with Upper Chine, and Bembridge School's buildings were acquired in 1996. It is a Church of England school designated in 2006, with a close relationship to All Saints' Church and a Chaplain overseeing worship; Christian values underpin the ethos while world religions are studied in RS. The motto UT PROSIM (that I may be of service) has guided the school ethos since its introduction in 1921.

Community

The school is a Church of England school with a close link to All Saints' Church; the Bishop of Portsmouth is our visitor and a Chaplain oversees worship, with assemblies and major services held at All Saints' Church. It hosts the Isle of Wight Literary Festival Schools Programme, bringing authors to the Island and engaging pupils in talks and assemblies; in 2024 six authors visited and over 200 visiting pupils attended. Facilities Overview

The school sits on over 17 acres of grounds with Solent views on the Isle of Wight. Centenary Boarding House is a modern, purpose-built facility that can house up to 90 pupils in single and twin rooms. Jenny Kerry Performing Arts Centre seats 225 and the Contemporary Dining Hall are on site, along with an Astro Turf (full size) at Smallbrook, a 16m x 33m Sports Hall, a Prep School Hall, a Studio, and tennis courts and school grass pitches. The Prep grounds include a Victorian greenhouse, extensive fields and sports pitches, and beehives used by pupils. The facilities are shared across Prep and Senior campuses to support teaching and enrichment, and spaces vary for events and activities.

Sports Facilities

The facilities for sport include a purpose-built sports hall, an all-weather surface for tennis and netball, and outdoor pitches for hockey, rugby and football, plus an athletics track and cricket square. On the Senior site there is a cricket square, a sports hall and pavilion, rugby and hockey pitches, tennis and netball courts, a small Astro and a Strength & Conditioning facility. Step 1: Enquiry and Visit. Prospective families contact the admissions team to discuss the child's application. To formally begin the application process, complete the online Registration Form and pay the non‑refundable registration fee. The registration fee signals your intention to apply and secures a place in the assessment process. The school confirms receipt of registration and outlines next steps. Step 3: Assessment. The school needs to be confident your child will thrive in the academic and social environment and will request two of the child's most recent school reports (translated into English if necessary), entrance assessments in English (as an Additional Language) and Mathematics, and an online interview with the Head Master. Step 4: Offer of a Place. If the assessment is successful, a formal Offer of a Place is made, subject to terms and conditions. Step 5: Acceptance.
