English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English is taught as a language and LFCL offers English-language pathways. From 2nde, students can choose the general section, the international section (BFI) French/Portuguese/English, and the European section English/Mathematics. The BFI is the bilingual French-Portuguese-English track. DNL in English is offered for SES/Philosophie and for SVT. At the end of 3e, students take a national English placement test (ev@lang), and a language attestation is issued in terminal.

Mental Wellbeing

The school provides health services including an infirmary and a school psychologist, with the doctor available by appointment. The infirmary is located in the basement and the psychologist's office is in room 225E. The service handles care and emergencies, monitors contagious diseases, and conducts health screenings. It also supports students with allergies or health conditions and can implement PAI and PPS. The service collaborates with families to promote the overall wellbeing of students and their healthy development.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is supported through close coordination with families and the health service. The school participates in Health and Citizenship Education (CESC) actions to promote safety and wellbeing. Enrollment 2026-2027 – Admissions process. Applications are for new students only; current LFCL students enroll via the regular process. The process comprises nine steps: 1. Create your account by clicking lfcl-lisbonne.eduka.school; 2) Choose the option that matches your situation; 3) Click the activation link you will receive by email (only for new accounts); 4) Sign in and click Admissions; 5) Create a new dossier for 2026/27; 6) Fill in the information about your child; 7) Complete the process by clicking Submit an enrollment request and attach the requested documents; 8) After submission you will receive a confirmation email; 9) An admissions committee will meet soon and send the decision by email. For preschool intake, the classes are Petite section for children born in 2023, Moyenne section for children born in 2022, Grande section for children born in 2021. Admission is based on vacancies. As an AEFE direct-management establishment LFCL guarantees priority to French children living outside France, and admission criteria will be based on this mission. The procedure has two phases: 1. admission request; 2) final enrollment for admitted students by paying the first registration fee. 1/ Admission request: four outcomes are possible: acceptance of the admission request; request for additional information and/or scheduling of a meeting; placement on a waiting list; or refusal of admission. 2/ Final enrollment: families whose children were admitted must complete enrollment within seven days of notification; if not, the vacancy may be offered to another child. Scholarships

AEFE Scholarship: Scholarships are available to students of French nationality living abroad, generally enrolled in a ministry approved school, and registered in the World Register of French nationals living outside France. Awards are based on financial resources and are not cumulative with CAF family allowances; the application is typically filed through the consular post and reviewed by the consular scholarship council; the scholarship applies for the current school year and must be renewed annually, independently of the school enrollment. AESH support may be provided for students with disabilities; the LFCL AESH program is funded by the family; the process follows AEFE circulars. LFCL Solidarity Fund provides financial assistance to families in hardship; funds come from voluntary family contributions and donations; eligibility is based on socio-economic criteria including movable and real estate assets, and can cover tuition, semi-intern status, health services, travel, textbooks, clothing, equipment, etc; under AEFE directives, aid cannot cover the difference for those already receiving state scholarships.

Refund and cancellation rules

- Fees paid for first enrolment and annual registration are non‑refundable in the event of cancellation.
- In case of withdrawal (désistement), amounts already paid will not be refunded; any period (month or trimester) already started remains due in full.
- No reduction of fees is granted for absence from classes or non‑use of services, except in limited cases: for school restaurant and transport a reduction may be considered for absences longer than fifteen consecutive days for medical reasons and only upon written request with a medical certificate.
- Trimestres already started are due in full; exceptional remissions may be granted only in cases of force majeure upon written request.

Food Options

The LFIP cafeteria serves balanced and healthy meals prepared by Eurest Portugal with nutritionist oversight. Menus are analyzed and approved in the Cantina Committee, which includes representatives from LFIP management, the Eurest Portugal team, the LFIP nurse, and representatives of teachers, parents and students. Approved menus and meeting minutes are published on the LFIP site and on PRONOTE. Meals include bread, soup, a main course, a salad buffet, and a dessert (yogurt or fruit). A seasonally available fruit is provided. The salad buffet offers three simple vegetables and a mixed salad.

Governance and Ownership

LFIP is governed by the Board of Administration, a three‑part assembly consisting of the school directors, the Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy in Portugal, seven employee representatives, five parent representatives, and two student representatives. The Board has deliberative authority over internal regulations, the educational project, the school calendar, and the life of the school. The LFIP operates within the AEFE network (Agency for French Education Abroad).

Curriculum

The program is a high-level curriculum recognized by the French and Portuguese education ministries. It provides general education up to the final diploma, the Baccalaureate, which is recognized for higher education in France, Portugal, and worldwide. Higher Education Progression

Our students have access to all universities in Portugal. In Portugal, admissions use the Provas de Ingresso (entrance exams) or equivalence with Bac scores for admission to all universities. For higher education in France, Parcours Sup coordinates first‑cycle admissions and provides information on formations and applications. In France, a Bac authorizes enrollment in universities anywhere in the country.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Health and Citizenship Education is led by the Health and Citizenship Education Committee (CESC), made up of Board Members, Teachers, Students and Representatives of the Parents Association, with a mission to observe, think about and propose educational projects. It carries out actions beyond the teaching scope to help students from pre-school to the 12th grade obtain fundamental values and become citizens who are aware of and active in the world around them. The teaching team prioritizes partnerships with local institutions (PSP, APPACDM, etc.) and professional contributions (doctors, family planning, companies). The Health and Citizenship Path may include an oral examination in 9th grade as part of the DNB if the students choose to take it. Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The LFIP ensures the application of the protocol on Students with Special Education Needs. It promotes individual supervision of all students through differentiated instruction, provides support to newly arrived students who are non-French speakers from the first year onwards under the FLE (Français langue étrangère) program, and formalises the supervision of Students with Special Education Needs with written protocols for Primary School and for Junior and Senior School. A Parcours Avenir (Future Path) is built from pre-school to 12th year to support guidance. Form Committees oversee student progress with a shared board used by teachers to coordinate supervision, and there are dedicated written protocols for supervising SEN at both Primary and Junior/Senior levels.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

LFIP pursues bilingualism and multilingualism. Scholarships

The school offers scholarships for outstanding students. Scholarships may be awarded to students who live or study within the Oeiras area who otherwise may not have the opportunity to benefit from an OIS education. Scholarships are awarded on merit by the Scholarship Selection Council and are weighted by need, with partial or full scholarships possible. They cover all yearly registration and fees and required educational activities, with no other discounts applied. Open to students ranked in the top 10% of their year (Year 7 through Year 12) who live or study in the municipality of Oeiras. Ten full scholarships exist, and automatic yearly renewal is based on continued high academic achievement and significant involvement in wider school activities. The online application must be submitted by 14 March at 17:00 and includes: a letter from the applicant's parents in English or Portuguese, a short video in English outlining why they wish to join OIS, the applicant's Curriculum Vitae, reports from the previous three years including grades, three recommendation letters (one from Head Teacher/Principal and two from current teachers), and a declaration from the Head Teacher/Principal that the applicant is ranked in the top 10%. The Scholarship Selection Council is composed of one representative from Câmara Municipal de Oeiras (CMO) and at least three OIS representatives. Discounts and family reductions

Notice of withdrawal and refund rules

- Notice of withdrawal: parents must give one full term's written notice to the school when withdrawing a pupil. Failure to provide the required notice may affect return of the refundable deposit. Curriculum

The school offers a broad, logically sequenced international curriculum taught in English, spanning Early Years through Secondary and culminating in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and IGCSE. Special Educational Needs (SEN)

OBS recognises students with special (or additional) needs as those with learning difficulties or disabilities requiring different or additional support from peers. Provision for SEND and English as an Additional Language (EAL) is coordinated by a dedicated Head of Learning Support (SENDCo). The SENDCo oversees IEPS and pupil passports and leads targeted interventions. EAL support is provided within the school to supplement language development.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English is the language of instruction in all but Modern Foreign Languages and Portuguese History. OBS provides EAL (English as an Additional Language) support within the school to supplement an existing or developing level of language.

Mental Wellbeing

OBS promotes positive mental health and wellbeing for the whole school community. Mental health and emotional wellbeing are recognised as crucial factors in learning and achievement. All staff have a role to help everyone learn about maintaining positive mental health and to access help when needed, and the school works to reduce stigma and provide support networks.

Safeguarding

OBS recognises its moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. There is a dedicated Safeguarding Team and all staff receive annual safeguarding training. Staff are alert to signs of children in need, including those under severe academic pressures, at risk from eating disorders and mental health concerns, and follow procedures to ensure that pupils receive effective support, protection and justice. The Child Protection Policy sets out roles and responsibilities, safeguarding training and procedures for dealing with concerns.

Fill in the Application Form. Complete one Application Form per child applying. After you submit, you will be asked to settle the non-refundable registration fee. The Apply Now option is available to submit the application.
Assessment and Interview. We will contact you to arrange an interview and assessment with the relevant Academic Coordinator or Head of Section. Wherever possible presential interviews will be held at the school. Prior to the assessment meeting you will have to submit copies of your child's previous school reports, as well as any documentation to support Learning Needs (if applicable).
Offer of a Place. Within 10 days of the assessment, we will inform you of the decision on whether a place will be offered. If there are no vacancies, your child will be placed on the waiting list and you will be updated on the status of your application.
Acceptance of a Place. Once a place is offered, you have 15 days to accept the offer. You will be asked to return the signed Acceptance Form and payment of the Acceptance Fee and submit any missing documentation. You are then required to pay the refundable deposit within five weeks to guarantee your child's place.
