Instruction in private international schools is usually English with German taught as a second language or used in parallel bilingual streams; the state Europa-Schulen deliver roughly half their lessons in German and half in the partner language. Tuition at private international schools varies: typical annual fees in the city range widely (from low five-thousands up to around €25,000), with many schools clustered in the roughly €10 - 14k band and extra costs for exams, meals and transport. Admissions for the main school year are busiest for the intake that starts in August/September, many schools open priority rounds in the autumn and some operate rolling or mid-year entry if space exists, so relocating families are usually advised to begin their search and applications 6 - 12 months before arrival and to check language-support and assessment arrangements early.
