Families choosing IB international schools in Finland will find a mix of private international schools and municipally run bilingual or English-language schools that also offer one or more IB programmes (PYP, MYP and/or DP). Instruction is commonly in English, often alongside Finnish or Swedish in bilingual schools, with strong support for learning Finnish as a second language where needed. Fees vary widely: municipal international or English-language options are provided free or at nominal cost to local residents, while private international schools typically charge tuition that in practice ranges from under €1,000 a year at the most modest end to well over €16,000 a year at the top end. Admissions follow the Finnish school calendar (the academic year begins in mid-August), and municipal places usually require local residency while private schools use their own application windows, tests and waiting lists - so allow time to apply and arrange assessments or language testing.
