Helsinki’s international-school scene mixes municipal, contract and private providers: several city schools run fully English or bilingual programmes (and some use the IB framework) inside the largely free municipal system, while privately operated international schools teach in English and follow international curricula with charged tuition. Fees therefore vary a lot - municipal and many contract schools are free or charge only modest annual levies, whereas private international schools publish multi-thousand-euro tuition rates (for example, one private international school’s 2026 - 27 fee schedule shows annual tuition from about €12,400 in Early Years to about €16,800 for Grades 11 - 12). Admissions normally follow the city’s main enrolment round (with supplementary and continuous admission routes for mid-year arrivals) and many English or bilingual places require a language test or proof of prior English-medium schooling. Relocating families should register their Finnish home address promptly, gather recent school reports and language documentation, and allow several weeks for tests, waiting lists or supplementary application rounds when planning a move.
