History
|
History — | History The Deutsche Internationale Schule Tbilissi was established in the 2010/2011 school year in Tbilisi as a German–Georgian encounter school offering education based on German curricula. It is part of a global network of more than 140 German Auslandsschulen. Since 2010, the school and kindergarten grew each year and moved three times between 2010 and 2016 to different rented premises due to increasing enrollment. In 2015 the Georgian government transferred a greenfield site of 8,400 square meters to the school association at a symbolic price, creating the basis for a dedicated campus. From April 2016 to July 2017 the sponsoring association built a school building on this site with support from the German Federal Foreign Office; financing the campus, which also includes the kindergarten, required taking out a loan. In September 2017 the school opened its own campus with modern buildings and generous outdoor spaces for play and sport; in 2019/2020 expansion work added two side wings and a multi‑purpose hall, and since 2022/2023 the campus has been fully expanded. The process concludes with an online admission form, confirmation of admission, the setting of a starting date, and the signing of a kindergarten contract; priority is given to children from Germany and to siblings of current students. 2. School admissions: Admissions inquiries for the first grade must be submitted by the end of March. Applications for all subsequent grades depend on intake capacity and are possible up to the summer holidays. A start during the current school year is possible in justified individual cases, but requires consultation with the headteacher. The admissions process includes a detailed information meeting with the school administration (general information about kindergarten and school, campus tour, fees), an online admission inquiry, a detailed parents' interview with the principal, a student admission interview with the principal and, if applicable, a German language test, an online admission form, confirmation of admission, and the signing of a school enrollment contract. 3. Gastschüler (guest students): The Deutsche Internationale Schule Tbilissi is open to guest students, particularly from German-speaking countries or from German-speaking schools. For admission, a written guardians' application to the school leadership, a copy of a written exemption for the student from their current school for the attendance period, and, for students arriving in Georgia without parents, the full address of the host family are required. Information about the admission procedure and tuition is available through the school administration. Your contact person is Nato Menabde. |
