The British International School Moscow was established in 1994 as the first private international school in Moscow. In 1995, School 2 opened for children aged 7 to 11 and School 3 for older students, delivering English-language education under the English National Curriculum. Tatiana Konstantinovna Anufrieva was the founder and led BIS Moscow for twenty-six years. BIS Moscow achieved Cambridge accreditation in 2011 and was honoured in 2016 for inclusion in a Queen's anniversary album. As of 2023 BIS² has almost three hundred employees, one thousand students, two thousand parents, and six schools.

School 7 is part of the British International School Moscow (BIS) network. BIS began with School 1 in 1994 as the first private international school in Moscow for ages 3–7 with English instruction. In 1995 BIS opened School 2 for 7–11 years and School 3 for 11 years old. In 1997 BIS opened School 5 with a Russian education programme while continuing English language instruction. In 2014 Secondary School 7 opened, allowing students to study under the A level and IGCSE programmes. The A level pre university qualification was assigned to BIS in 2014 and COBIS accreditation was awarded in 2016. By 2023 BIS operated six schools with about 1,000 students and around 2,000 parents.
