- If a previously granted fee reduction (social/sibling/hardship) is later found to have been wrongly granted, the school may reclaim the improperly granted reduction.

Notes on practical handling of payments
- The fee schedule requires that the signed, original fee agreement and either the total payment or the first instalment be received by the school by the stated deadline to make the enrolment binding. Bank transfers must be made to one of the two accounts provided (German or Turkish account) and should follow the IBAN/BIC details supplied in the fee schedule. No alternative payment channels (e.g., card payments) are listed in the schedule.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

We promote each child individually in their development. We learn in small groups together and from one another. Mutual respect and positive cooperation are practiced by all at our school. We design our spaces so that everyone feels comfortable and a good learning atmosphere is created for students. We foster acceptance and intercultural understanding. Inclusion is provided for diagnoses officially recognized in Germany, with cases reviewed on an individual basis.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Inclusion is provided within the regular school structure. We support each child individually in their development. Inclusion applies to diagnoses officially recognized in Germany, with cases reviewed on an individual basis to determine suitable supports. The school uses available spaces, staff, and materials to accommodate needs within the regular classroom. The approach aligns with the German education system.

Mental Wellbeing

We implement a prevention program addressing safety and wellbeing. The program Mein Körper gehört mir is theater-based and focuses on preventing sexual abuse of children. It operates in a two-year cycle with performances by the Theaterpädagogische Werkstatt Osnabrück. Sessions include student activities and a parent information event to discuss the program. The aim is to empower students to protect themselves while avoiding fear. The program is part of the school's broader well-being and safeguarding initiatives.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is integrated with inclusion and wellbeing initiatives. For concerns, contact the school leadership at schulleitung@botschaftsschuleistanbul.de. Inclusion applies to diagnoses officially recognized in Germany, with cases reviewed individually. The prevention program for safety complements daily safeguarding in classrooms. The approach emphasizes a safe, respectful, and intercultural learning environment.
Parent Experience

History

The Botschaftsschule Istanbul is the Istanbul branch of the private school of the German Embassy in Ankara. Its history begins with the German-speaking community in Istanbul and the Teutonia Club; the kindergarten was reopened in 1882, with later phases including a 1925 reopening after World War I and a 1944 closure. In 1953 the Turkish state returned the school, and in 1961 the institution was re-established as the Deutsche Botschaftsschule for grades 1–5 under Turkish law. The Teutonia Kindergarten was founded in 1961 and integrated into the Botschaftsschule in 1965. The 1964 building addition was constructed on the grounds of Club Teutonia, linking the school's history with Club Teutonia and a German cultural milieu including Goethe Institute activity. From the 1960s into the 1970s many German teachers moved to Istanbul to teach German, and by 1971 the student body reached 207. In 1986 the Schulverein (school association) was founded in Bonn to operate the school, establishing a six‑member board and governance structures; renovations and modernization followed in the late 1990s. In 1998, Turkey introduced eight years of compulsory schooling. In 2020 the original main building of Teutonia was handed over to the Orient Institute for use, with substantial renovation work on the main building commencing thereafter. The school is not under Turkish educational supervision, as the Schulverein is the sponsoring body.

Community

Traditional festivals and celebrations form a fixed part of the school's life, linking European heritage with Turkish culture and marking the yearly rhythm. The community participates in events that illustrate this blend and invite broad participation. Recent examples include Sternsingeraktion 2026, Weihnachtsfeier 2025, Weihnachtsbasar 2025, Bundesweiter Vorlesetag 2025, Halloween 2025, Schülerparlament 2025, Herbstfest 2025, Klassensprecherwahl 25/26, Einschulungsfeier Schuljahr 25/26, Sommer- und Abschlussfest 25, Sportfest Mai 25, Autorenlesung April 25, and Fasching März 25.
