Fees

Application fees

- Preschool application fee: NOK 1,000 (payable on entry).
- Acceptance fee for all schools: one month's school fees charged on receipt of the acceptance form; this amount is deducted from the first invoice and is not refundable if a child does not attend.

- Annual tuition (calendar year 2026): NOK 44,800 per annum.

- Equivalent per term (arithmetic conversion: annual fee ÷ 3): NOK 14,933.33 per term (this is a calculated equivalence, not an invoicing format).

- BISS Preschool (100% – five days, 07:30–16:30):
- Annual tuition: NOK 13,200 per year (NOK 1,200 per month over 11 instalments).
- Preschool snack programme (optional): NOK 1,650 per year (NOK 150 per month).
- Equivalent per term (arithmetic conversion: annual fee ÷ 3): NOK 4,400 per term (calculated equivalence).

Billing schedule and payment terms

- Invoicing: School fees are invoiced in eleven monthly instalments; invoices are sent to parents/guardians who are responsible for payment. Students joining mid-year are invoiced from the first of the month in which they join (the whole month is charged regardless of start date).
- Payment timing and penalties: Payment due date is 10 days from the invoice (standard invoice terms). A late fee of NOK 35 applies for late payments.
- Instalment alternative: Fees may also be payable in two instalments (August and January) where that option is used; the first month's tuition (acceptance fee) is taken on acceptance and deducted from the first invoice.

Withdrawal, notice and refunds

- Withdrawal notice: After a child has started school, three months' notice of withdrawal is required. Notice begins from the 1st of the month following submission of the withdrawal form. The three months' notice period includes holiday periods.
- Withdrawal fee: The withdrawal fee is equivalent to three months' school fees at the current rate. If the leaving date is sooner than three months, the full withdrawal fee (equivalent to three months' fees) will be charged.
- Acceptance fee refund: The acceptance fee (one month's fees) is not refundable if a place is accepted and the child does not attend.
- SFO refunds: SFO (after‑school care) fees are not refunded for illness or holidays.

Boarding

- There is no boarding provision; BISS operates as day schools (Preschool, Primary and Secondary).

Other costs and optional services

- SFO (Skolefritidsordning – after‑school care) at BISS Sentrum:
- Monthly charge for 100% places: NOK 3,188 per month.
- Monthly charge for 60% places (three days per week): NOK 2,194 per month.
- SFO places cannot be applied for until a school place has been offered and accepted; SFO refunds are not made for illness or holidays.
- School clothing / uniform:
- School fees do not cover school clothing; uniform items must be purchased separately from the school's supplier. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) lessons and assemblies complement the curriculum and address how students live in their communities and practice looking after their own wellbeing. There is a school nurse available for confidential advice on health and emotional wellbeing. Two students are elected as student leaders to represent the student body at the school board meetings, alongside teachers, board members and parents. There is a student council that gathers students' opinions and suggestions. The school focuses on developing students as individuals so they can lead happy and fulfilling lives.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Special Educational Needs (SEN) support aims to improve students' self-esteem in addition to academic performance. Internally, staff with SEND/EAL skills support students, with a weekly SEND meeting to monitor progress. Externally, specialists can be called for evaluation of learning difficulties, including Educational Psychologists and BUPA. SEN services are available to support diverse learning needs within BISS Sentrum. The program supports inclusion and progression within the mainstream setting.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English is the language of instruction and language learning pervades all areas of the curriculum. Students are assessed on entry to determine how they can access the taught curriculum in English. Trained English as an Additional Language (EAL) teachers provide support, including additional lessons after school, support during lessons and occasional removal from lessons. EAL students follow a modified English Language and Literature curriculum with smaller groups and targeted language skills. The school supports maintaining students' mother tongues and provides mother tongue support where available.

Mental Wellbeing

PSHE lessons and assemblies address wellbeing and social and emotional development. There is a school nurse available for confidential advice on health and emotional wellbeing. Students have channels to express their views, including two elected student leaders and a student council. History

British School of Stavanger was founded in 1977 and moved to its current premises in 1981. In 2004 it changed its name to the British International School of Stavanger to reflect its international community and curriculum. In 2019 BISS became three schools: BISS Preschool, BISS Gausel and BISS Sentrum. BISS Sentrum opened as a Friskole in 2019 and offers English-speaking Primary and Secondary Education, with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The Sentrum campus is located near the centre of Stavanger and serves children aged 6–16, with a Primary School (6–11) and a Secondary School (12–16).

Academic & Intellectual

I'M A MUSICIAN is a private music school that collaborates with BISS Sentrum to provide tailored music lessons. Instrument options include piano, singing, guitar/electric guitar, and violin. Lessons are after school and one-to-one, held at BISS Sentrum.
