Introduction

Colégio Suizo Madrid is a confessional independent, nonprofit school for ages 2 to 18, with a small, family-like atmosphere. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The curriculum follows Swiss standards, with many teachers from Switzerland and regular quality checks by Swiss inspectors. Students acquire personal, social, and methodological competencies on their way to the Swiss Matura and the Spanish Bachiller. The school is a living space as well as a learning environment, with open communication and a culture of belonging and mutual trust within the school community. It also prepares students for access to universities in Switzerland, Spain, and other countries.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)
A team of specialized professionals accompanies teachers to ensure holistic development of students and address the needs of students and their families. They identify learning difficulties and emotional or social difficulties through psycho-pedagogical assessments. They support teachers and families with educational guidelines and promote a positive school climate through various projects. They support students with learning difficulties and accompany them in managing conflicts and emotions. They coordinate prevention workshops on bullying and cyberbullying, drug use, eating disorders, sexual and emotional education, and career guidance, and provide counseling to families and workshops for parents.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)
In the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, daily routines are conducted in German, with a short German language lesson. Spanish is introduced in first grade. English begins in fifth grade and French begins in ninth grade. Both languages are compulsory through to graduation. Official examinations are taken at the Cambridge Institute and the Alliance Française, and German language examinations are offered by the Goethe-Institut.

Parent Experience

History
More than fifty years of history and counting. In 1968, a group of Swiss expatriates founded a non‑profit association with the aim of establishing the Swiss School Madrid. Two years later the school opened its doors in the Arturo Soria area with 46 students and four teachers. In 1972, after official recognition by the Swiss authorities, the new school center at the current site was opened. Since then the school has continuously expanded its facilities and now serves about 600 students. Since 1970 thousands of students have passed through our classrooms and they are our best ambassadors.

Community
The community section includes a blog and a newsletter for the school community. There is a summer camp (Sommerlager 2024) and leisure courses (Freizeitkurse) offered as part of school life. There is an Alumni section, reflecting ongoing engagement with former students. There is a Parent School (Elternschule) program for parents.
Facilities

Facilities Overview
The school sits on nearly 25,000 m² of green space in Alcobendas, adjacent to La Moraleja. It shares space with the Helvetia Association of Madrid, which includes the Swiss Club and the Swiss Restaurant. The school has spacious classrooms equipped with the resources necessary for the holistic development of students. The school is accessible to people with reduced mobility and provides exclusive-use elevators. The campus features 11,000 m² of sports facilities, and sport is integrated into the school from early childhood through secondary education.

Sports Facilities
The sports facilities include a covered sports hall and outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball and handball. There is an athletics track and an artificial turf football pitch. Padel and tennis courts, plus a table tennis table, are available. An outdoor swimming pool is available through the Swiss Club.

Academic Facilities
Educational spaces include six classroom pavilions, with several rooms fitted with interactive digital boards, and a computer room. The science laboratories are equipped for physics, chemistry and biology. They are equipped with the latest technologies in molecular biology, microbiology, cellular biology and biochemistry. These facilities support hands-on exploration and project-based learning across the sciences.

Extra Curricular Facilities
Artistic spaces include music and dance rooms, as well as rooms for arts and crafts and a multipurpose space for Spanish dance and ballet. The library is central and includes informal reading spaces, and there is a Ludoteca (playroom) for younger students. Multipurpose rooms provide spaces for meetings and events, with a stage for performances. The dining area is served by an on-site kitchen that prepares daily menus, including options for allergies and gluten-free diets, checked by a professional nutritionist. Sports and outdoor facilities support after-school activities, including access to 11,000 m² of sports spaces and the outdoor pool through the Swiss Club.
Extra-Curricular Activities

Academic & Intellectual
The school provides German language reinforcement and mathematics tutoring as part of academic support. Kleine Deutschstunde offers small German language lessons. Lernatelier provides a learning workshop for 3rd–8th grade.

Arts & Creative
The Music School offers violin, viola, cello, piano, and guitar with individual and group lessons, including pre-instrumental programs for younger students. Three concerts are held each year in the Aula Magna for the school community. Cultural activities include Musical Theatre, Art Attack, Urban Culture, Diverciencia, and Little Artists.

Cultural & Language
After-school German sessions include La tarde en alemán for Prekindergarten and Kindergarten and for 1st–2nd grade, with additional German language support through Kleine Deutschstunde. Spanish is introduced in 1st grade; English in 5th grade; French in 9th grade, with English and French remaining compulsory through the end of schooling.
