Academics

Deutsche Schule St Petersburg teaches German Curriculum.

Curriculum

The DSP teaches according to German standards with curricula approved by the Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK). The language of instruction is German. All students study three foreign languages: Russian from grade 1, English from grade 3, and French from grade 6. After completing grade 10, graduates obtain the Mittlerer Schulabschluss. In the upper secondary, teaching follows German curricula and admission to the Oberstufe begins at the start of grade 11. Admission to Oberstufe for students from the German system is based on examination results (MSA-based) with minimum grades of 3.0 (for Gymnasium and MSA) or 2.4 (for Realschule); Russian-language students with German and English knowledge (minimum B2) take entrance examinations; language assessment is supported by German language models B2 and C1.

Student Teacher Ratio

Approximately 150 students in primary and lower secondary and more than 24 teachers; roughly six students per teacher.

Exam Results

Upper secondary admissions use German-system exam standards: for students coming from the German school system, entrance results are based on MSA exams with minimum grades of 3.0 (Gymnasium/MSA) or 2.4 (Realschule). Russian-system students with German and English knowledge (minimum B2) take entrance examinations. Language assessment includes model German language tests B2 and C1.

Parent Experience

History

Founded in 2009. The school today includes a kindergarten, primary school, middle school, and upper secondary school. All lessons from the 1st grade are taught in German; admission to the 1st and 2nd grades does not require knowledge of German, while entry to higher grades requires a language test. Our students study three foreign languages: German from 1st grade, English from 3rd grade, and French from 6th grade.

Community

Teachers from Germany, Russia, and other countries teach using methods recognized by European experts as effective. Students study in modern classrooms and laboratories, have two daily outdoor breaks, participate in clubs and electives, and enjoy holidays, excursions, and project work. The school maintains constant contact between parents and teachers to respond quickly to students' needs. The aim is to develop multilingual communication, respect for rules, and collaboration while students set and achieve their goals.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Parents' Council is a consultative body of the German Auslandsschulen. At the start of each school year, two parent representatives per class are elected to form the Parents' Council; all parents may stand for election. It does not make decisions on school life alone but collaborates with the school to resolve issues. Tatjana Vaag serves on the Parents' Council and Ekaterina Tulugurova is the chair. The Executive Board is a seven-seat leadership body responsible for strategic development, finances, legal matters, marketing, and sponsorship; six seats are currently filled. The school and the Executive Board are members of the Deutscher Schul- und Kindergarten Verband Russland (DSKVR); all German-speaking parents may join the Association, and applications for the Board or Association can be sent to gf@ds.spb.ru.

1) German language is the most important condition for admission. If the child has attended a German-speaking school or a German Auslandsschule and thus has sufficient German language skills, admission can occur without a language test. Russian language knowledge is not mandatory for admission. 2) Procedure for school admission: a guided tour of the school to become familiar with the educational concept; a trial day in the appropriate class; a welcome meeting with the parents. 3) For children coming from German schools: an admission interview and transcript evaluation. For children coming from Russian schools: an admission interview, transcript evaluation and/or language test. 4) Billing is issued and an adaptation period in the class begins. 5) Children transferring from German-speaking countries or from other German schools abroad do not need to take a language test. For children from Russian schools, starting in the second half of the second grade, passing a German language test becomes mandatory for admission; if admission occurs by the end of the first half of the second grade, German language skills are desirable but not required. 6) Base tuition for all grade levels for the 2026/2027 school year is 1,103,000 rubles per year. Below this, approximate tuition costs can be calculated. A discount of 15% to 30% applies for the second and subsequent children.
