Admissions

Admissions

1. Admission is not automatic. Applicants must meet minimum criteria: age-appropriate fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing and comprehension); a supportive family who will engage with the school in promoting the child's education and English language development; and learning needs that can be largely met within the mainstream classroom without significant additional adult support. Assessment and interviews are fundamental parts of the admissions process, designed to ensure the student's educational needs can be met within a mainstream setting. The school may take into account prior educational and linguistic background to fulfill its mission of providing education in the English and Arabic language to the international community.
2. All prospective students take entrance assessments in core subjects, including math and literacy (English and Arabic). An interest inventory is completed with the aid of a parent or guardian, and the school uses the results of these tools to make final placement decisions. Students are placed in the appropriate age group based on their age on September 1; the school reserves the right to place a pupil in a different age group if deemed more suitable. The languages of instruction are English and Arabic, and prior educational and linguistic background may be considered in fulfilling the mission of providing education in both languages.
3. Admissions decisions are made after careful evaluation of candidates; results of entrance testing and previous school records are considered on a case-by-case basis. Additional criteria include motivation, social and emotional development, willingness to work hard, and the school's ability to accommodate the candidate's needs. To complete registration, the required documents should be presented at the initiation of the admission process. Once accepted and the required fees are paid, a place for the student is reserved.
4. Waiting list: When spaces are limited, applicants may be placed on a waiting list. Siblings already enrolled at SAPS are given priority within the wait pool, and other criteria are considered. The school provides applicants with a realistic assessment of chances and timing for admission from the wait pool. Periodic updates are provided to parents regarding enrollment status and whether they wish to remain in the wait pool.
5. Confirmation of offer and enrollment: Applicants that are accepted are asked to accept or decline the offer within one week of notice. Offers are communicated by the school, and enrollment is finalized upon acceptance.
6. Languages and curriculum: The languages of instruction are English and Arabic in all grades. The school delivers English-medium subjects under a Cambridge curriculum from Primary through Secondary and Arabic-medium subjects under the Ministry of Education curriculum.
