Parent Experience

History

Kupe's legend introduces our land's story, with Kupe reaching the Hokianga near Huanui and Ngāpuhi's Rahiri dividing the land that would become Pehiaweri and Glenbervie. In 1873 the Huanui farm was formed by the Hutchinson family, producing honey, dairy, beef, chaff, and orchard fruit. During World War II the area was briefly converted to a G5 army base. Huanui College was established on 8 February 2010 and officially opened on 10 March 2010 by the Honourable Heather Roy and Whangārei Mayor Stan Semenoff, with blessing from Reverend Hake Parata and local tāngata whenua of Pehiaweri Marae. The founder, Evan Hamlet, envisioned high-quality independent education and parental involvement.

Community

Huanui College is a New Zealand leader in positive education with the well-being of whānau at the core and relationships built on trust and respect. Clear communication and genuine interest in each child's development help build strong connections between family, child and teacher, creating a sense of belonging. The pastoral care programme provides dedicated time for discussion among students, parents and teachers in a safe environment where students feel comfortable sharing. The school emphasizes innovative academic pathways, including outdoor education and agricultural education, while supporting diverse learner needs and fostering family involvement in education.
