Parent Experience

History

The Instituto Internacional opened its doors in August 2011 in Ajijic, offering the Bachillerato program for grades 10–12 and culminating with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in the final two years. In August 2012, the Secondary section (grades 7–9) opened; to distinguish between sections, the Bachillerato was named Instituto Internacional Octavio Paz and the Secondary was named Instituto Internacional Alfonso García Robles. Construction on the new campus building began in October 2012 and was completed by August 2013, when the school opened its third year with about 100 students in grades 7–12 and began IB examinations for the Class of 2015. In autumn 2013 Sierra Farms opened as a fully organic, self-sustaining farm to teach environmental science and sustainability. In 2019 the aquaponics building was donated to the University of Guadalajara, and in August 2021 the Primary School Juana de Asbaje opened for grades 1–6 with more than 40 students in a hybrid learning model.
