History
Foundation laid by Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom on 4 June 1979 for Machchangolhi ward, with the opening of Madhrasathul Ahmadhiyya on 21 February 1982. The initial plot was 8,000 square feet and a further 4,000 square feet was added later, bringing the total to about 12,008 square feet, with eight classrooms, an administrative office, the Machchangolhi Ward Committee office, a water tank and three toilets. A three-storey western wing and a three-storey southern wing were built to expand capacity; the campus now includes 28 classrooms, a science laboratory, a library, a music room, a staff room, the principal's office, five toilets, a store room, a water tank and a prayer room. The building was upgraded with the kind assistance and funds of the government to five- and six-storey structures to accommodate growth.

Community
AIS emphasizes producing socially responsible individuals by having students participate in activities that engage the wider community.
