Curriculum
IB Diploma Programme is offered, with six subject groups: Language and Literature; Language Acquisition; Individuals and Societies; Sciences; Mathematics; and the Arts. Learners study three subjects at Higher Level (240 hours) and three at Standard Level (150). The Core includes Theory of Knowledge (ToK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS). The Diploma Programme fosters international-mindedness and independent lifelong learners. KIS Astana plans to offer the full IB continuum (PYP from Kindergarten through Grade 5, MYP Grades 6-10, and DP Grades 11-12) and uses an inquiry-based, globally minded curriculum.

Parent Experience

History
Kazakhstan International School (KIS) was founded over 20 years ago as a Montessori kindergarten in Almaty and is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate programme. In 2008, KIS Almaty became an IB World School, offering the Primary Years Programme. In December 2018, KIS Almaty moved to a central, state‑of‑the‑art campus, enabling expansion to Grade 10 and completing the Middle Years Programme. In 2020, the school developed into an all‑through IB school for ages 2–18 and received authorization to deliver the Diploma Programme, with CIS and MSA accreditation processes underway. The brand‑new KIS Astana campus will open in August 2024 with an Early Years campus for ages 2–5 and a Primary campus for ages 6–10 (Grade 1–4) in the EXPO area of Astana. KIS is a community that emphasizes values as well as academics and aims to be a family‑like environment.

The KIS Astana campus opened in 2024 in the EXPO area of Astana and is a newly purpose-built facility with outdoor recreation and sports grounds. 1. KIS Astana accepts students from Preschool through Grade 9. Enrollment is open for children aged 2 to 10 years. In 2024, a new KIS Astana campus opened, and the school is now accepting students for Preschool through Grade 9. English is the language of communication in school, and the environment is multicultural.

2. Interested families should fill the Register Your Interest form to start. The form asks for the child's name, email, and phone, and asks which programme is of interest (Early Years or Primary Years). The form notes that Javascript is required for submission. Enrollment is open for ages 2-10.

3. Academic fees for 2026-2027 are listed by level: Toddlers (2 years old) cost 10,000 USD; Pre-Kindergarten (3 years old) 11,000 USD; Kindergarten (4 years old) 14,500 USD; Reception (5 years old) 20,000 USD. Primary Years: Grades 1-2 22,000 USD; Grades 3-5 24,000 USD; Middle Years: Grades 6-8 26,000 USD; Grades 9-10 27,000 USD. A 40% merit-based discount is available for students with high academic performance starting from Grade 2.
