Xin Zhong School was founded in 1934 as Sin Hwa High School, a Chinese secondary school for SMP and SMA. Operations ceased in 1966 due to social-political conditions at the time. In 2000 alumni formed Yayasan Sarana Hubungan Harmonis Sejahtera (SHHS) to realize the dream of educating national and Asian leaders, and SHHS opened Chinese language courses in Plaza Surabaya in July 2000 and at Widya Kartika University, Sutorejo in August 2001. Xin Zhong opened Playgroup and Kindergarten in 2004 and Xin Zhong Elementary in 2005 as a national-plus school with a Competency-Based Curriculum enriched by an international curriculum to develop trilingual communication in Chinese, English and Indonesian.
