History

Montessori School Bali was established in 1998 by Kadek Wiranatha and Nattalia Sinclaire, a Balinese family-owned school that is AMI-affiliated and Indonesian-accredited. Nattalia Sinclaire, AMI-trained for ages 3 to 12, joined Kadek to realise an authentic Montessori vision. The school is the island's only Balinese family-owned AMI-affiliated international school. In 2017 the campus moved to a purpose-built Berawa site designed to support the Montessori approach, beauty and nature, with AMI-trained guides and university-degreed classroom assistants. Milestones include expansion from a single preschool class in 1998 to a full programme across age groups and ongoing development of adolescent and high school diploma programmes in collaboration with UNESCO GEM by 2025.

Community

Montessori School Bali maintains a Campus Life section featuring School Activities and School Events. The Our Journey timeline documents events such as a Grand Gathering with alumni and former teachers in 2023. A Russian-speaking testimonial notes that the family is very happy with Montessori School Bali, their children flourish socially and academically, and the school is a place of strength and calm for them. Translation of the testimonial indicates the family finds value in the school's environment and community.
Facilities

Facilities Overview

The campus is purpose-built for a Montessori education on a sprawling and tranquil campus in the Berawa area of South Bali. The current campus opened in January 2017 and houses all class levels, with space to accommodate up to 280 students. The spacious and airy classrooms are inspired by traditional Balinese pavilions, and large covered verandahs provide space outside the classrooms for work while sheltered from sun and tropical rain. The environment is designed around Montessori principles to foster personal development and learning in harmony with nature.

Academic Facilities

Classrooms are equipped with classic Montessori materials on child-sized shelves, self-correcting and accessible for independent learning. The materials and environment emphasize a calm atmosphere, natural materials, and responsive, well-trained guides. Child-sized furniture, tools, and equipment empower independence and support a three-hour uninterrupted work cycle for deep learning.

Extra Curricular Facilities

A diverse range of activities supports children's development across all areas of learning.
Extra-Curricular Activities

Field trips are organized by students in Lower Primary, with parental permission for significant trips. The Five Great Lessons are presented at the start of each year in Montessori Primary, guiding exploration across subjects. Work emphasizes independent inquiry and collaborative learning within a structured Montessori environment.

Arts & Creative

Preschool ends with familiarity in music and art; the Montessori Preschool curriculum fosters creativity and expression through music and art alongside reading, writing, and basic maths.

Cultural & Language

Social & Hobbies

Adolescents engage in community service, business management, and environmental stewardship. They undertake practical projects and run a micro‑business (for example, Lotus Coffee), integrating maths, science, and communication.

The campus design supports outdoor time and indoor/outdoor Balinese‑inspired environments.
