Parent Experience

History

From 1962 to 1993, the Lycée Français de Budapest operated as a local, regional school without a formal legal status, an island of Francophonie in Hungary. In the 1990s, French-Hungarian educational links expanded: the Institut Franais moved into new premises on F utca in 1992, and a Foundation for the lycée was created in 1993 with support from the Chambre de Commerce France Hongrie, accelerating the transition to an autonomous lycée with Hungarian state financial support from 1994. A new autonomous lycée building opened in 2002, now hosting over 700 students from diverse nationalities. By 2019 the composition was about 20% French, 45% Hungarian, 15% other, and 20% dual nationals. The lycée is fully integrated into Budapests 2nd arrondissement and has developed numerous cultural partnerships; the building spaces have been renovated, including a kindergarten courtyard inaugurated in September 2018 by Mme Andre9ani, Ambassador of France to Hungary.

The school serves a diverse community of students from multiple nationalities.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The school has an Association des Parents de9le8ves (APE), a French-law association that signed a convention with AEFE to create a French lycée in Budapest. Ten parents are elected every two years to form the Administration Council, with a president, a vice-president, a secretary, and a treasurer. The APE has three missions: managing the establishment (financial, strategic, human, and governing bodies); animating the community (events, communications, fundraising); and coordinating parentamily relations. The APE supports the building and budgets, and the president of the APE is the president of the lycée foundation, which is the employer of local staff. The APE organizes events such as Nuit du cinéma, Marathon, Saint Nicolas, Christmas Market, Loto, Vide-greniers, and Fête de lunde9cole. Current officers for 2025/2026 include President Laurent Bonherbe; Vice Presidents Fre9de9ric Germanaz (Administration) and Tame1s Sztancsik (Events & Cultural Activities); Treasurer Gre9gory Laperdrix; General Secretary Joeblle Sze9les Marquie9; and Board Members René Angoujard, Thierry Bartoloni, Krisztina De1vidne9 Krokos, Patrick Dubruille, Agne8s Ducrot, and Pierre P.
