Curriculum

The Moraitis School is an IB World School since 1984 and began offering the full IB Diploma Programme (DP) in 1991 for students finishing the Greek Lyceum and for students from non-Greek schools. The DP combines a Core of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) with six subject groups: Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts. Courses are offered at Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL); students study six subjects over two years, with at least three at HL. Group 1 languages can be taken in Greek or English, and a Bilingual Diploma is possible if Greek is chosen in Group 1. A seventh subject can be taken for an additional certificate; DP assessments are overseen by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). Pre-IB is provided as a two‑year bridge for external students to prepare for the DP, and students may alternatively continue to the Greek General Lyceum if they choose not to join the DP. History

Moraitis School opened in 1936 as Protypon Lykeion Athinon, founded by the mathematician Karl Berzan, in a neoclassical building on Mavrommaton Street, with 77 pupils and 11 teachers. In 1952 the operating license was transferred to Antonis Moraitis and the school relocated to Psychiko, then home to 618 pupils. Construction of a new building began in 1954, and by 1971 the campus accommodated about 2,000 pupils from nursery to lyceum with 250 teachers and 150 administrative staff, with the first blessing at the new building that year. The façade of the new building was designed by the artist Giannis Moralis in 1973. The school embraced the International Baccalaureate program in 1985, with the first IB Diploma cohort in 1992; in 2014 a nursery was established and the current leadership took office, enabling the school to admit children from age 3.

1. Submit the Registration Application. The Registration Application must be completed by the parent or legal guardian of the child. The Registration Application is submitted via the online form at moraitis.openapply.com. This submission initiates the admissions process.

2. Nursery, First Nursery, and First Grade admissions. Eligibility depends on readiness to learn and emotional maturity, assessed through meetings with the school psychologists. Siblings already attending the School, alumni parent status, and the timing of the application influence the final selection. The final date to submit the application is December 1 of the year prior to the child's attendance, and the selection process runs from November to February; for the Nursery, the process occurs between March and April.

3. Intermediate grades (lower and upper primary) admissions. Applications are accepted only if vacancies exist. Candidates must reach at least an average level for the grade and have English knowledge at the level taught at the School. Selection includes written and oral examinations and an interview. For Grades 5 and 6, knowledge of French, German, or Spanish is also required. The admissions process for these grades takes place in May, before the school year begins.

4. Gymnasium – Lyceum and IB admissions. Examinations are conducted for all Gymnasium and for A' Lyceum (PreIB). Prior satisfactory grades from the student's previous school are required, along with knowledge of English and French and German or Spanish, at levels taught at the School. The selection process occurs between March and May, with an emphasis on each student's prior performance and language abilities; for the International Baccalaureate, the English proficiency level must be at least Cambridge FCE, and the interview is held around the end of March.

5. Communications. The School is not responsible if communication is not possible due to changes of address or telephone numbers.

Scholarships

1. Scholarships admissions pathway. Applications for admission with a scholarship to Gymnasium-Lyceum/PreIB are processed through the standard admissions portal.
