Introduction

BilinGO Primary School is a privately owned Ersatzschule located in the Braunsfeld district of Cologne. The school teaches the North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) curriculum using an immersive 50/50 bilingual model, instructing students equally in German and English. Class teachers deliver lessons alongside English native speakers and teaching assistants to ensure daily language exposure. Serving children between the ages of five and ten, classes are capped at 22 students to facilitate focused attention and weekly learning support groups. The daily schedule runs from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., integrating mandatory lunch periods and optional afternoon clubs, such as guitar and piano. A distinct feature of BilinGO Primary is its seamless connection to the broader BilinGO network, sharing a location with the BilinGOlinos Kindergarten and offering a direct pathway to the BilinGO Campus for secondary education. BilinGOlinos offers bilingual education from Kindergarten through secondary school, with BilinGO Primary nearby and BilinGO Campus further afield for secondary education. The KiTa provides two bright, modern group rooms and a long corridor, with rooms partitioned to create a retreat area and a dedicated reading/rest space. A Pre-School room for preschool instruction is on the second floor. The gym hall with two changing rooms supports motor development, and each child has a personal locker; meals are prepared in a modern kitchen and delivered by Landbrenner Catering.

Academic Facilities

DaZ (Deutsch-als-Zweitsprache), Little Learners, and Haus der kleinen Forscher take place in the morning and afternoon in the learning spaces. A Pre-School room for preschool instruction is located on the second floor with child-friendly furnishings. Little Learners is conducted entirely in English. The learning framework includes Toddlers, Little Learners and Preschool sessions.

Extra Curricular Facilities

The outdoor area features a large climbing frame, a Hollywood swing, a wooden house, a pirate ship, and a sandbox, with colorful murals and courtyard games such as Hopscotch, an ABC snake, and Mirror me. The nearby city forest and two neighboring playgrounds are used for regular excursions to provide outdoor experiences. The Kita groups are Froggies and Bumblebees.
Extra-Curricular Activities

Academic & Intellectual

Preschool runs four times weekly, with two sessions in English and two in German, preparing children socially, emotionally, cognitively and academically for primary school. Little Learners runs twice weekly for 30 minutes per session to develop counting, fine motor skills, and general knowledge, and is conducted in English. By the end of the KiTa year, children can write their names, count to 20, and recognize letters and numbers. The Lern- und Förderungsprogramm adds DaZ and Haus der kleinen Forscher as additional learning supports to the regular program.

Cultural & Language

BilinGOlinos offers bilingual education in English and German from kindergarten through secondary school, with an option for bilingual Abitur. German as a Second Language (DaZ) is provided with three groups (Beginner, Beginner+, Advanced) to match language proficiency. The program emphasizes engaging activities to help learners acquire German in a playful way.

Lifestyle & Wellbeing

Sport is offered weekly for the Bumblebees and Froggies with an American sports teacher; preschoolers have separate sport sessions. Movement education aims to support well-being, promote physical fitness and motor skills, and foster self-esteem and teamwork.
Languages

Languages taught are English and German; DaZ (Deutsch-als-Zweitsprache) support is available.

Bilingual Teaching

The BilinGO Schools offer bilingual education from Kindergarten through secondary school, with an option for a bilingual Abitur.

Immersion Programs

Immersion is the core approach: the new language is used for daily interaction and instruction. Native English-speaking educators speak only English and German-speaking educators speak only German; children may ask questions in either language but receive answers only in the language assigned to the educator. The method provides a gentle entry for children with no prior German or English and helps them join the group while learning playfully.
