Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school supports social-emotional development through inclusive practices and structured student support. Each class has two weekly hours for reading and language support. Selected students participate in online language tutoring with German university students for about nine months. Some students receive accommodations such as enlarged print and seating arrangements to reduce distractions. School psychologists provide support, and team trainings are conducted to improve classroom climate and personal development; theatre and festivals strengthen individuals and the class. Parents are involved through regular conversations, parent-teacher days, and individual appointments, and may be guided to external support services as needed.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school provides inclusive support for learners with difficulties through differentiated instruction and targeted interventions. Each class has two weekly hours of reading support and two weekly hours of language support. Selected students with weaker language skills in the 4th and 5th grades participated online in one-hour language-enhancement sessions with a German university student teacher for about nine months, in two groups of five. Some students receive enlarged print or clearly laid-out templates due to visual impairments, and seating arrangements are adjusted to reduce distractions for concentration issues. For students with concentration difficulties and psychological issues, seating adjustments and access to the school psychologist were arranged, and there were team trainings to improve classroom climate. Parents are extensively advised and supported through conversations and parent meetings, and are sometimes directed to external services such as speech therapy when appropriate.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The German language program uses German as the language of instruction for the DSBA. Mastery of German is considered essential for success in the school's program. DaF (German as a Foreign Language) and DaM (German as a Mother Tongue) are part of the language concept. Deutschsprachiger Fachunterricht (DFU) means about four-fifths of German instruction occurs in German-language teaching within subjects. The content and language requirements are addressed through language-sensitive teaching across subjects, integrating language support into the curriculum. The Deutsch-Konzept is designed to guide the language program from DaF orientation in kindergarten and primary to DaM in higher levels.

Mental Wellbeing

The school provides mental wellbeing support through a school psychologist. The on-site school psychologist is Dr. Nermeen Ahmed Naguib Abdallah Khalil and is available Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 to 13:00. Students with psychological concerns are counseled, with parental involvement and coordination with the psychologist. The inclusion program strengthens wellbeing through team trainings to improve classroom climate and promote positive behavior. The school organizes activities, projects, class councils, theatre performances, and festivals to support personal development and wellbeing. Parents are advised and supported through conversations, parent-teacher days, and individual appointments.

Safeguarding

The school provides safeguarding through access to an on-site school psychologist. The school psychologist is available Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 to 13:00. Students with safeguarding-related concerns may receive counseling and appropriate interventions coordinated with parents. The inclusion program strengthens safeguarding by improving classroom climate and providing targeted support. Parents are advised and supported through conversations, parent-teacher days, and individual appointments, and may be directed to external services such as speech therapy when appropriate.
