History

Saint Mary's School in Limassol is 101 years old and the oldest private school in the city. It was established in 1923 by the Catholic Church and run by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. It began as Terra Santa in a stone building on Agios Andreas Street, and in 1965 moved to the current building near the Agios Nikolaos roundabout on Georgiou Griva Digeni Street, where it was renamed Saint Mary's School. The building was designed by architect Stavros Oikonomou and is a notable example of Cypriot modernism. The school was originally a girls' school; in 2000 it changed form, with the kindergarten and primary always coeducational, and in 2023 celebrated 100 years of history.

St. Mary's Hall is the home for performing arts productions, assemblies, meetings, and many school, Parents' Association, and parish events. Admissions

Admissions

1. Submit registration for the Gymnasium's 1st grade by providing a primary school diploma, a certified copy of the birth certificate, and a completed Registration and Consent Form. If the student belongs to a religious minority (Maronites, Latins, Armenians) and one parent is Cypriot, copies of both parents' IDs and a baptismal certificate must be submitted. Registration fees are non-refundable if the student withdraws, and additional costs include a €110 registration fee, an optional €10 insurance fee, and a €20 contribution to the Parents' Association.
2. New students must sit written entrance exams for the Gymnasium cycle, usually held in March in coordination with the Ministry of Education (YPAN). The exams include English-speaking and Greek-speaking sections and cover Language (comprehension, grammar, essay), Mathematics, and General Knowledge, based on the first semester content of the 6th grade primary curriculum.
3. Graduates of Primary Education are enrolled in the Gymnasium cycle without exams if they have been evaluated as excellent through a final assessment, which is conducted in the classroom by the responsible teachers to determine readiness to progress to the 1st grade.
4. No new student is registered in any grade other than the 1st grade of Gymnasium; new students are admitted to the Gymnasium cycle based on the terms above and the standard progression from Primary Education.

Scholarships

Even though school fees are low, the top two second-year Lyceum students with the highest academic performance and an exemplary behavior grade (20/20) throughout the year receive a full scholarship for their third year.
