The school opened in February 1922 as Deutsche Schule in Bogotá – German School, led by Anton Kraus with Elisabeth Schrader as head teacher. A group of German friends formed the Deutscher Schulverein (German School Association) in 1921 to establish the school. Growth led to moves to larger premises in 1925 (Carrera 8a and Calle 19) and later to a larger building on Calle 20 between Carreras 12 and 13.
