Curriculum
An intercultural hub that is continually evolving, with students at the center. The study plans and programs support the student profile and the holistic development of students, focusing on cultivating abilities and competencies useful throughout life. Intercultural encounter underpins holistic and interdisciplinary development of children and youths. Formative assessment, project work, and the development and strengthening of skills across developmental stages are important aspects of the curriculum. The timetable complies with both the Chilean Ministry of Education and the Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK), the body that regulates the German International Abitur (DIA), which students may take if they wish. To identify additional learning objectives, the school uses conversion tables and curricular coherence. Subjects that integrate the German curriculum and whose learning objectives are not included in the Chilean curriculum have been adapted under our own curricula to meet both Chilean and German requirements. Up to grade 4, students learn in a bilingual environment called the "language concept"; all subjects are taught in German. In grades 5-6, students go through the "orientation stage," giving all students the opportunity to study additional subjects in German and to consolidate learning strategies for different subjects. From grade 7 onward, students can choose to be taught in German or Spanish in grades 7-10; content and hours are identical and provide the opportunity to obtain the Abitur. DIA — Deutsches Internationales Abitur — is the German International Abitur that students can take at the school. The DIA is internationally recognized and leads after 12 years to the General Higher Education Entrance Qualification. A broad subject curriculum across natural sciences, humanities and social sciences sets a standard for study readiness at more than 80 German international schools worldwide, since the final exam meets the requirements of German Gymnasien. Our graduates are internationally oriented, independent, and well-trained across a broad spectrum. Three-language emphasis (German – Spanish – English) enables graduates to access international universities and opens up excellent career opportunities. Worldwide, studying with the Abitur is possible at several universities in Chile as well, and the school continues to expand this possibility.
