Higher Education Progression

The Student Services Department coordinates with students, teachers, parents, counselors, and community organizations to prepare students for life beyond high school and college readiness, including internships and career opportunities designed to open doors to future educational, career, and leadership possibilities. Our work centers on three thematic areas—Learning to Learn, Learning to Work, and Learning to Contribute—to support college readiness and pathways to higher education.
Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school has a Student Services Department that supports social and emotional learning through collaboration with students, teachers, parents, counselors, and community organizations to support student learning and well-being. The department designs targeted programs to open doors to life beyond high school, including internships and career experiences. The work is centered on three thematic areas: Learning to Learn (student-centered learning strategies), Learning to Work (internships and mentorships and career fairs), and Learning to Contribute (community involvement and service). Counselors are part of the support network and help students with personal and academic development. The goal is to graduate well-rounded young people who can move confidently to the next level of education.
Parent Experience

History

Belize High School traces its roots to Saint Catherine Elementary School, established in 1883 as a private coeducational school and the oldest Catholic educational institution in Belize. In January 1993, to mark the official break from the Sisters of Mercy, the school was renamed Belize Elementary School. In 2009, the Board of Governors began exploring the development of a high school, and in September 2010 Belize High School began operating with 32 students, their parents, six teachers, and officials from the Ministry of Education and the Board. Belize High School is the country's only private educational institution with a college-preparatory oriented and technology-integrated curriculum.

Admissions

Admissions

1. Submit the transfer application with supporting documents. The transfer application must be fully completed to be considered. Documentation should accompany the submission to support eligibility. The school reviews the application as the first step in the admissions process for transfer students.
2. Transcript evaluation and grade placement. Transcript grades are entered into the BHS Planning guide as a means of admissions, but grades are not absorbed into the student's permanent record. The student is admitted to the grade they qualify for based on the academic report. If there are academic deficits after the review, the student may be required to sit a placement exam.
3. Sign an academic and behavior contract before the first day of school. The contract outlines expectations and performance criteria for probation. To remain in good standing, the student must meet a GPA of at least 2.0, complete 35 credit hours, and pass three of the four semesters offered in the track during junior and senior year. The contract requires meeting subject requirements by the midterm of the fall semester; otherwise the student may be required to repeat the year.
4. Pay the required fees and complete transfer-related financial obligations. The transfer process includes an application fee of $45.00, a placement fee of $800.00, and a monthly tuition of $330.00. A Transfer Report Form is part of the process.
