History
The American International School Vienna was founded on September 1, 1959, by the Embassies of the United States and Canada; its predecessor was the Vienna International Community School (VICS), founded in August 1955 after the closing of the American and British army schools at the end of the allied occupation of Austria. In 1961 AIS Vienna took possession of the Salmannsdorfer Strasse campus, and in 1964 AIS Vienna celebrated its first school year on the new campus with 357 students of 28 nationalities. In 1973 AIS Vienna incorporated as a 501(c)(3) corporation in the USA. Today AIS Vienna serves about 800 students from 80 nationalities.

Community
AIS Vienna has a welcoming and involved community, and every family is supported throughout their transition to AISV and Vienna. The AIS Vienna community includes students from 80 nationalities, with annual alumni gatherings offered on campus and in other parts of the world. The campus hosts a variety of events and performances, including theatre and concerts such as the annual Pops Concert in the amphitheater.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
Parent-Teacher Forum (PTF) is part of AIS Vienna. Members of the PTF are part of the AIS Vienna community of students, alumni, parents, teachers and staff who volunteer to support one another, our children and the school in a variety of ways. PTF volunteers organize events throughout the school year. The PTF helps connect families and staff and supports school programs. New volunteers and members are welcome. Facilities Overview
An 11-acre AIS Vienna campus overlooks the city and is adjacent to the Vienna Woods and the Neustift vineyards. The AIS Vienna campus houses Elementary, Middle, and High School in separate wings of a larger, interconnected building, creating a family-like atmosphere on one campus. The AIS Vienna Theater was renovated in 2012 and updated in 2023 and hosts musicals, plays, talent shows, concerts, and assemblies. The Cafeteria seats about 270 students, with dining options in a smaller Café, on the terrace, or in the outdoor Amphitheater. The Elementary School Playground was recently renovated to provide outdoor space for supervised play.

Sports Facilities
The Sports Field offers outdoor space with views of the Vienna woods. The Mike Maloy Gym is the main location for all-school assemblies. The Sports Hall is the largest multi-purpose space on campus and is used for a variety of events, including the International Food Festival. An enclosed Fun Court includes a full-size basketball court, soccer goals, and a volleyball court, plus a recreation area with basketball hoops, recess courts, and table tennis.

Complete Academic Screening after your application is finished; screenings may be online or in-person.
