Tandem IMS was set up by multilingual education specialists to advance primary education through multilingualism. It began with six children at the Uetikon site and grew to over 300 children from about 30 nationalities, with campuses in Erlenbach, Küsnacht, Zollikon and Zurich. Sonya Maechler-Dent founded the first Tandem IMS school in Uetikon am See and led expansion; the name Tandem International Multilingual School was adopted in 2010 with the motto 'Discover the world through languages'. In 2024 Tandem IMS celebrated 20 years of multilingual education, and in 2025 opened the Küsnacht campus hosting the Gymnasium and primary grades 5 and 6.

Kindergarten and Primary have a four-day week from Monday to Thursday, with Friday optional; From Secondary onwards, the last day of the week is Entrepreneur Friday. The school day runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with healthy snacks and hot meals provided. The school is open for six weeks of vacation per year, and families can take up to six additional weeks of flexible vacation.

Ballet classes in Zurich (and Zollikon) foster movement and artistry, while Playball programmes across locations promote fitness and teamwork. Gymnastics is available in Zurich to build strength and coordination, and Jiu Jitsu in Zurich focuses on discipline, balance, and self-confidence. Football in Zurich, delivered with InterSoccer, provides structured athletic development for varying levels of ability.

German and English are the languages taught. Instruction occurs in both languages across the curriculum, with about half of the teaching staff being German-speaking and the other half English-speaking.

Early Years and Pre-School teach German and English; Kindergarten includes German and English with French optional; Primary includes French as an integral part of the weekly schedule. The core curriculum combines Lehrplan 21 (Zurich canton) with the UK National Curriculum.

In Early Years and Pre-School, groups are taught by a German and an English native-speaking teacher, and translanguaging is used to help children learn both languages. 1. Questionnaire: Complete the family questionnaire, sent by e-mail, to finalize the request. 2. School visit & Getting to know each other: Kindergarten: On-site meeting between the child, parents, and educator during visiting hours. Primary: A short on-site introduction between the child, parents, and educators during a trial day; after the initial settling-in, the parents leave. Secondary & Gymnasium: Trial Day on-site for the child. The day begins with an introduction between the child, the parents, and the educators. After this, the parents leave. For children applying from outside Switzerland who are unable to attend in person, a video call can be arranged instead. If an additional Trial Day is required, the registration fee of CHF 500 will be charged. 3. Admission: Admission: Decision by family and SOT on admission. 4. Contract: The contract will be sent digitally and the first invoice will follow after signing. Once the registration fee and the first installment of school fees have been paid, your child is definitively enrolled. 5. Welcome: The start of your personal learning journey at School of Tomorrow. 6. NB.: The contract must be signed within 10 days, after which the place will be released.

International applicants will receive information and support from office staff to assist with a smooth transition for the entire family.
