In 1976 the MIS Foundation gained full authority to operate the school under a Board of Directors responsible to the parents. In 1981-1982 MIS moved to a purpose-built campus funded by Mobil Oil, Inc., and enrollment grew. In 2002 MIS was authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, and in 2003 the Primary Years Programme followed. In 2014, following regulatory changes in Indonesia, the school changed its name to Medan Independent School under the same Yayasan. In 2017 MIS was authorized to offer the Diploma Programme, and the 2018-2019 school year marked the first graduating Diploma Programme cohort. It is best to discuss everything you need to know upfront before making a decision. 3. Experience a Day of School. Three trial days are offered free of charge for all grades to experience learning at MIS. 4. Eligibility Assessment. All students are encouraged to arrange a FREE trial session prior to registration. Students entering Grade 3 or above must complete the MAP test in Reading Comprehension, Language & Literature, and Math. Students who are three or more grade levels behind the grade they are applying for may be denied admission. 5. Age Eligibility. Students should be at least 3 years old and potty-trained at enrollment. Entrance ages for other grades are based on a student's age as of Oct 1 and academic records. 6. International Transfer. MIS strongly recommends that students coming from southern hemisphere schools (Jan–Dec calendars) repeat a semester of their current grade rather than skip a semester of the next grade; each case will be decided individually. 7. Note on Fees and Policies. There is no Registration Fee for Kindergarten 1 & 2; a Registration Fee is charged upon enrollment to Kindergarten 3 (including students continuing from Kindergarten 2). Admission overview and process: a rigorous academic selection process is used, with each child undergoing an observation and assessment period (for Early Years) or taking an entrance examination. The entrance examination includes assessments in English, Mathematics, and Science, plus a personal interview. The school may request students to attend class for one or more days to monitor behavior and academic level. 6. Class placement: the school accepts children from age 2 for Playgroup up to age 15 for Grade 10. Students must have a graduation letter from the previous school year and the results of the final examination where applicable. Students from English-based education systems will be placed according to conversion into our system. 7. Curriculum and language: English is the medium of instruction; Mandarin is offered in collaboration with Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). Cambridge is used for Primary and Secondary, IEYC is used for Early Learning, and IB options are available for Grades 11 and 12. The school has seven campuses located in Medan, Jakarta, BSD, Sentul, and Surabaya. 8. Fees: Tuition ranges from IDR 25 million for Early Learning to IDR 187 million for Grade 12 per year, with prices varying by location and level. Tuition does not include a one-time registration fee, books and learning resources, uniforms, field trips, Chromebooks and laptops, external exams, ESL, courses, and other services. 9.
