History
History
Origins date to 1888 with the opening of Ecole Sainte-Catherine in Saint-Louis des Français, and a new building at 7a Milioutinski later became the current site for the collège and lycée. By 1900 the school had 162 pupils, but enrollments declined after the 1917 events as families fled to France; in 1946 it became a scientific school with about 500 pupils and was later closed and used as an annex for the KGB archives. In 1979 the school moved to the Immeuble de France as the Ecole d'ambassade under the Ministry's oversight; renovations allowed the IDF site to accommodate 300 pupils. In 1997 the Rue Milioutinski site was leased to France for 49 years, renovations began in 1999, and the site was inaugurated in 2005, placing the lycée on two sites (IDF and Milioutinski) with a third site opened later at a Russian school due to growth. In 2015 the Ivan Bounine campus opened, creating three sites; an expansion project for Milioutinski was approved in 2017; and in 2026 the Ivan Bounine site was closed.
History
Founded in 1888 as Ecole Sainte-Catherine in the parish of Saint-Louis des Français, a new building was erected at 7a Milioutinski Street, the site of the collège and lycée today. By 1900 the school counted 162 pupils, but the February 1917 upheavals prompted many families to leave Russia for France, drastically reducing enrollment. In 1946 it became school number 287 and a science-focused institution serving the nomenklatura; enrollment rose to about 500 before the end of the 1960s, when it closed and became an annex for KGB archives. From 1958 the school operated in the premises of the French Embassy (IDF) and, after three years, a French teacher was recruited to serve 15 pupils, then 33. In 1979 the school left the embassy for the Immeuble de France, becoming an embassy school; in 1997 the Milioutinski building was leased for 49 years and inaugurated in 2005, creating two sites (IDF and Milioutinski) with a third site opened later in a Russian school; in 2015 Ivan Bounine opened for kindergarten and primary, bringing three sites, expansion was approved in 2017, and in 2026 the Ivan Bounine site was closed.
