School 9 opened in 2007 as a primary school offering English-language education for children aged 3 to 11, with an adaptation programme for those who require English support. The British International School Moscow originated with School 1 in 1994, followed by the openings of Schools 2 and 3 in 1995 and School 5 in 1997, the latter introducing a Russian education programme. In 2011 BIS Moscow received Cambridge University Accreditation; COBIS accreditation followed in 2016, the same year the school was mentioned in a Queen's Jubilee album. By 2023 BIS Moscow consisted of six schools, with around 1,000 students, about 2,000 parents, and almost 300 staff.
