Graz’s international offering is compact and largely bilingual rather than made up of many full-fee private “international schools”: the city has state-supported bilingual and multilingual primary settings and a bilingual senior secondary (Graz International Bilingual School, GIBS) that runs a German - English programme and offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma in the upper years. English and German are the dominant languages of instruction; some primary schools deliver the Austrian curriculum in bilingual form while a small number of primary schools follow the IB Primary Years approach. Many of these options are public or municipally funded and do not charge standard tuition, although parents commonly pay voluntary foundation or association contributions and meet costs for after-school care, meals and IB examination fees. The Austrian school year starts in September, and families should expect local enrolment rhythms (first-grade enrolment and municipal placement procedures) to follow municipal timelines and formal registration windows in the months before the autumn term.
